Celebrating Life

We’ve normalized the fact that life is formed within the mother’s body. Genetic information from both parents comes together, and the machinery kicks into gear: one cell divides into two, two into four, four into eight, and so on. When you stop and think about it, it’s an incredible transformation. The woman who carries life undergoes profound changes: her belly grows, many even change shoe sizes, breasts enlarge, and after giving birth, they change again.

While men also go through transformations, our changes are not as drastic or visible as those experienced by women. I’ve had mixed feelings about maternity photography. Sometimes, I think it’s cruel because many women don’t like how they look during pregnancy. Other times, I see it as magical because life itself is full of magic. It’s definitely worth preserving a memory of this time, and photography helps us do just that.

Aunque los hombres también atravesamos transformaciones, nuestro cambio no es tan drástico ni visible como el de las mujeres. He reflexionado mucho sobre la fotografía de embarazo. A veces pienso que puede ser cruel, porque muchas mujeres no se sienten cómodas con su apariencia durante este período. Pero otras veces lo veo como algo mágico, porque la vida misma está llena de magia. Definitivamente, vale la pena preservar un recuerdo de este momento, y la fotografía es la herramienta perfecta para ello.

These particular clients weren’t especially notable. But when viewed through the lens of life, every person who brings new life into the world is extraordinary. It doesn’t matter who or when—celebrating life is always worth it.
