El 28 de septiembre tuve la dicha de celebrar en familia un día muy especial, el cumpleaños número 81 de mi querida abuela…. Un número que se dice fácil pero evidentemente llegar a esa edad es admirable aun cuando tengas que meterle más pastillas al cuerpo que comida ja ja ja. Espero yo llegar hasta esa edad y poder seguir disfrutando de las bellezas que día a días nos regala la vida. Fue una reunión bastante familiar, llena de risas, anécdotas y el cariño sincero de la familia. Vivo con mi abuela desde los 19 años lo que quiere decir que la parte más difícil la vivió ella, pues debo de confesar que en mi adolescencia no fui tan tranquilo como cuando tenía 10 años.

On September 28, I had the joy of celebrating a very special day with my family: my dear grandmother’s 81st birthday…. A number that’s easy to say, but obviously reaching that age is admirable even if you have to take more pills than you eat, ha ha ha. I hope to live to that age and continue enjoying the beautiful things life gives us every day. It was a very intimate family gathering, full of laughter, stories, and the family’s sincere affection. I’ve lived with my grandmother since I was 19, which means she went through the hardest part, because I have to admit that as a teenager I wasn’t as easygoing as I was when I was 10.

Hubo un momento de esa noche que entre abrazos, las anécdotas, los agradecimientos, las risas y los buenos deseos, sentí una inmensa gratitud por tenerla con nosotros, tan llena de vida y con su misma alegría. La celebración fue bastante calidad, la verdad todos conversábamos y cada uno de nosotros con sonrisas. Hemos pasado por tanto que me alegro ver a mi familia una vez más así, tan felices. Con la partida de algunos familiares muy cercanos, esas sonrisas estuvieron bastantes escasas. Lo curioso de la noche es que no me pude resistir a la tentación y una vez más, el mar me llamaba así que, con mi cámara en mano, me escapé por un momento para reconectarme con la inmensidad del océano bajo aquel inmenso manto negro alumbrado por la hermosa Luna.

There was a moment that night when, amid the hugs, stories, expressions of gratitude, laughter, and good wishes, I felt immense gratitude for having her with us—so full of life and with her usual joy. The celebration was truly special; honestly, we were all chatting, and each of us was smiling. We’ve been through so much that I’m glad to see my family like this once again so happy. With the passing of some very close relatives, those smiles had been few and far between. The funny thing about that night is that I couldn’t resist the temptation once again, the sea was calling me so, with my camera in hand, I slipped away for a moment to reconnect with the vastness of the ocean beneath that immense black blanket illuminated by the beautiful moon.
