Entre lecturas y pensamientos: 26 noviembre 2023/ Between readings and thoughts: november 26 2023

Hola, Hivers:

Si eres lector de este blog, te darás cuenta que he cambiado el nombre de mi diario por este que me parece un poco más interesante y que va de acuerdo a mis intereses, y espero que también sea de su agrado.

Siguiendo con esta línea, debo decir que tengo casi un año leyendo Historia de Roma. ¿Saben? Antes creía que debía tener plazos para mis lecturas, que tenía que terminarlas en un tiempo determinado. Pero con el paso del tiempo, he comprendido que lo mejor es disfrutar de lo que lees sin importar cuánto tiempo tienes leyéndolo.

Eso lo comprendí con Marcel Proust con su Búsqueda del tiempo perdido. Tardé un año o un poco más en finalizar esa monumental obra. Hubo momentos en que pasaba meses sin leerla, y retomaba la lectura y así iba. Mientras tanto, leí otras cosas. Con Proust descubrí que más que leer cierta cantidad de libros al año, es mejor leer lo que te guste y disfrutar.

Tampoco es que me ufane de leer uno de los libros más complejos de toda la literatura, pero hacerlo me enseñó lo.que acabo de decir arriba, y es verdad que hubo cosas que no entendí, pero a veces no es necesario que entiendas si lo disfrutas. En eso consiste el placer de la lectura.

Así que este año me he tomado el tiempo con Mommsen. Mientras tanto, leí La muerte de Artemio Cruz, 62, modelo para armar, Final de juego y El libro de Manuel, todas novelas de Julio Cortázar. Ahora mismo estoy leyendo los cuentos de Ernest Hemingway, a quien considero un maestro.

Aunque mi intención hoy era leer la mayor parte del día, la migraña saboteó cualquier esfuerzo intelectual, y ahora su espectro ha bajado y por eso puedo escribir esta nota. Vivir con migraña es un fastidio porque te limita en muchas cosas; pasas todo el día en la cama, sintiendo que tu cabeza va a estallar y con náuseas.

A pesar de todo, la vida sigue, y mañana les seguiré comentando sobre mis lecturas favoritas.

But over time, I have understood that the best thing is to enjoy what you read without worrying about how long you have been reading it.

There were times when I went for months without reading it, and I resumed reading and so it went. Meanwhile, I read other things. With Proust I discovered that instead of reading a certain number of books a year, it is better to read what you like and enjoy it.

It is not that I boast of reading one of the most complex books in all literature, but doing so taught me what I just said above, and it is true that there were things that I did not understand, but sometimes it is not necessary to understand if you enjoy it. That is the pleasure of reading.

So this year I have taken the time with Mommsen. Meanwhile, I read The Death of Artemio Cruz, 62, Model to Follow, End of the Game and The Book of Manuel, all novels by Julio Cortázar. Right now I am reading the stories of Ernest Hemingway, whom I consider a master.

Although my intention today was to read most of the day, the migraine sabotaged any intellectual effort, and now its specter has lowered and that is why I can write this note. Living with migraine is a nuisance because it limits you in many things; you spend all day in bed, feeling that your head is going to explode and with nausea.

Despite everything, life goes on, and tomorrow I will continue commenting on my favorite readings.
