Siempre he escuchado esa frase popular: “el que madruga, Dios lo ayuda”. Y poniéndolo en el contexto cubano, lo primero que me viene a la mente, es todo ese mar de pueblo trabajador, que tienen que levantarse bien temprano para poder abordar, por ejemplo: el único ómnibus disponible. Que, si no estás allí marcando como el primero, te puedes quedar fuera de los pocos afortunados por no contar con capacidad suficiente.

O esa tienda donde está el producto que quieres, sabes que se arman unas colas inmensas y si quieres alcanzar llevarte algo, tienes igualmente que madrugar para caerles allí temprano. En fin, que se presta para cualquier ámbito de la sociedad, todos los que igualmente formamos esa clase humilde, que llamamos: “el cubano de a pie”.

Por mucho tiempo me levanté temprano, por todas estas guerras de las que uno desde pequeño tiene que librarse. Hasta que un día te das cuenta de que lo que está para ti, nadie te lo quita, así que madrugue otro. Todos sabemos que Dios, por así decirlo, ayuda lo mismo al que madruga que al que se le va el tren.

Por eso, este domingo, salimos mi esposa y yo, a lo que decidiera el destino, a las 10 de la mañana, rumbo al mercado agropecuario “La línea”, que se encuentra ubicado en la ciudad de mi provincia, Pinar del Río. A sabiendas de que el día bueno para estas gestiones son los sábados bien temprano en la mañana, cuando sacan los productos agrícolas, entre otras ofertas.

Que allí, por suerte, son regularmente más económicos los productos que en otros puntos de ventas de la propia ciudad, podría decirse que es el mercado de la clase trabajadora. Con todos los ánimos de llegar y encontrar algo disponible, para intentar asegurar en la despensa parte de la comida de días posteriores, atravesamos este domingo la ciudad rumbo a dicho lugar.

Las calles se veían tranquilas, es un día que la mayoría no trabaja, por lo que muchos locales de ventas se encontraban cerrados. Mientras nosotros apenas salíamos en búsqueda de víveres, muchos ya venían de regreso con sus compras, por lo que no les recomiendo que intenten esto en casa, mucho menos si vives en una locura económica raramente parecida a la nuestra.

Gracias al divino, al universo manifestándose, a la alineación de los planetas, o que sé yo, llegamos encontrándonos un mercado surtido de productos aún y le pusimos el pecho a la tarea. Me gusta salir con mi esposa @mariolisrnaranjo a estas cosas, tiene mucho más vista que yo para estos jelengues, ya saben, cómo es eso de que: cuatro ojos ven mejor que dos.

Aunque también aprovechó, para un pretexto, de sacarla un rato de la casa, algo difícil de lograr. Luego de darle un bojeo al mercado, por los diferentes puestos de ventas, ya que como dijera mi esposa: no te puedes ir con la primera opción que te encuentres, decidimos qué comprar.

Como había buenos precios, compré dos coles, unas libras de tomate y pimiento. No había pepino esta vez, pero todo no puede ser perfecto. Al menos las ensaladas ya estaban cubiertas, pero seguimos y también comparamos cebolla, pasta industrial de ajo, así como una ristra del mismo producto que le da un rico sabor a las comidas.

Salimos de la instalación con el carrito que no le cabía nada más dentro, pero aún faltaban algunas cosas que ya son más complicadas. Bastante difíciles de encontrar últimamente, ya que se han ido desapareciendo del mercado algunos productos de primera necesidad, por diferentes factores externos e internos que, nos llevan al crudo camino de: la oferta y demanda.

De regreso nos encontramos con un local donde tenían uno de estos productos desaparecidos, el aceite de cocina. Pero buscando una cosa, encontramos allí mismo, paquetes de 10 lib. de pollo. Aunque, a decir verdad, aquel local estaba bastante surtido de productos alimenticios, como se va haciendo costumbre en estos locales de gestión no estatal.

Junto con el aceite y el pollo, quise darle un gustico a mi esposa y a mí, por supuesto, comiéndonos algo que, hacía años que no ponía en mi paladar: paleticas con coberturas de chocolate. Antes de regresar a casa, entramos por la casa de una tía de Mariolis para saludar, pero no demoramos mucho porque estábamos algo hambrientos, así que llegamos, organizamos las compras y preparamos algo de almuerzo.

Mariolis preparó una tortilla con cebolla, con los demás condimentos, que le quedaron espectaculares para acompañar el almuerzo. Ella sabe lo que me gusta. Y después de todo, no me puedo quejar, ha sido un domingo donde todo nos salió mucho mejor que, si lo hubiésemos forzado, pero ojo: el que madruga, Dios lo ayuda, no lo intentes, ja, ja, ja. Or that store where the product you want is, you know that there are huge queues and if you want to get something, you have to get up early to get there early. In short, it lends itself to any area of society, all of us who also make up that humble class, which we call: "the ordinary Cuban".

For a long time I got up early, because of all these wars that one has to get rid of since childhood. Until one day you realize that what is there for you, no one can take away from you, so someone else gets up early. We all know that God, so to speak, helps the early riser as much as the one who misses the train.

That is why, this Sunday, my wife and I left at 10 a.m., as fate would have it, for the agricultural market "La Linea", located in the city of my province, Pinar del Rio. Knowing that the best day for this kind of business is early in the morning on Saturdays, when they bring out agricultural products, among other offers.

There, luckily, the products are regularly cheaper than in other points of sale in the city itself, you could say that it is the market of the working class. With all the encouragement to arrive and find something available, to try to ensure in the pantry part of the food for the following days, we crossed this Sunday the city on our way to that place.

The streets looked quiet, it is a day that most people do not work, so many shops were closed. While we were just out in search of groceries, many were already on their way back with their purchases, so I do not recommend you try this at home, much less if you live in an economic madness rarely similar to ours.

Thanks to the divine, to the universe manifesting itself, to the alignment of the planets, or whatever, we arrived to find an assorted market of products and we put our chests to the task. Although she also took the opportunity, for a pretext, to take her out of the house for a while, something difficult to achieve. After browsing around the market, we decided what to buy, since as my wife said: you can't go with the first option you find.

Since there were good prices, I bought two cabbages, a few pounds of tomato and bell pepper. There was no cucumber this time, but everything can't be perfect. At least the salads were already covered, but we went on and also compared onion, industrial garlic paste, as well as a string of the same product that gives a rich flavor to the meals.

We left the facility with the cart that could not fit anything else inside, but there were still some things missing that are already more complicated. Quite difficult to find lately, since some staple products have been disappearing from the market, due to different external and internal factors that lead us to the crude path of: supply and demand.

On our way back we came across a place where they had one of these missing products, cooking oil. But looking for one thing, we found right there, packages of 10 pounds of chicken. Although, to tell the truth, that store was quite well stocked with food products, as is becoming customary in these non-state-run stores.

Along with the oil and the chicken, I wanted to give my wife and I a treat, of course, by eating something that I had not had in years: paleticas with chocolate toppings. Before returning home, we stopped by Mariolis' aunt's house to say hello, but it didn't take long because we were a bit hungry, so we arrived, organized the shopping and prepared some lunch.

Mariolis prepared an omelet with onion, with the other condiments, which turned out spectacular to accompany lunch. She knows what I like. And after all, I can't complain, it has been a Sunday where everything went much better than if we had forced it, but be careful: the early bird catches the worm, God helps him, don't try, ha, ha, ha, ha.
