Hi, dear community, architecture lovers,
today I'm telling you about my visit to the Ruhr area, in Germany (Nordrhein-Westfalen). This was a coal mining Hotspot from the 18th till and the end of 19th century. That time were closed the mines and the many other related factories. You could think, it´s cool for urbex-tour, but no, there are not abandoned places.
Everyone, who I told about my plan to visit the Ruhr area during my vacation, asked me, what I was going to do there. How did I even have the idea of spending my vacation there? My answer was, I love architecture, I am interested in visiting the UNESCO World Heritage attractions and there must be other beautiful things to see - even in this area of Germany.
These plans were also fulfilled and even exceeded on the last day. Then I visited Zeche Zollern in Dortmund, which is a colliery built in an Art Nouveau style. Luckily it was saved from demolition and today there is a museum there, you can also go underground to the mine.
Just look at this entrance to the engine hall. By the way, this was one of the first motor-driven mines in Europe.

heute erzähle ich euch über meinen Besuch im Ruhrgebiet. Jeder, dem ich über meinen Plan, einen Besuch im Ruhrgebiet in mein Urlaub abzustatten, hat mich gefragt, was ich dort machen werde. Wieso komme ich überhaupt auf der Idee, dort meinen Urlaub zu verbringen. Meine Antwort war, ich liebe Architektur, ich bin interessiert, die UNESCO Weltkulturerbe-Attraktionen aufzusuchen und auch auf diesem Gebiet Deutschland findet man einige schöne Sachen zu sehen.
Diese Pläne waren auch erfüllt und auf dem letzten Tag sogar übererfüllt. Dann habe ich Zeche Zollern in Dortmund besucht, welche in einem Jugendstil gebaute Zeche ist. Zum Glück wurde vom Abriss gerettet und heute ist ein Museum da, auch Untertage kann man gehen.
Schau einfach mal diese Eingang der Motorhalle an. Übrigens das war eine der ersten motorbetriebenen Zechen in Europa.

Auch die Verwaltungsgebäude ist einfach wunderschön. Schau mal diese Jugendstil Deko des Gelände an!

In dem anderen Gebäude befand sich die Garderobe der Bergmänner. Die Halle ist beeindruckend. Wie ein Tempel, die Eingangshalle siehst du auf dem ersten Bild des Beitrags. Man sagt, dass man die Bergbauarbeit mit dieser wunderschönen Baustil verehren wollte.
The miners' cloakroom is in the other building. It is impressive, it´s such a temple. You can see the entrance hall like the first picture of the post. It is said that they wanted to venerate the mining work with this beautiful architectural style.

Auf einem anderen Tag waren wir in Duisburg. Zunächst haben wir einen Kunstobjekt besucht, dann den Industrialen Landschaftspark, wo Eisen und Stahl produziert wurde. Ich lasse die Bilder für sich sprechen.
On another day we were in Duisburg. First we visited an art object, then the industrial landscape park where iron and steel was produced. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Letztlich zeige ich euch einige Bilder über den Zeche Zollverein in Essen (UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe). Was ich leider nicht fotografiert habe, sind die Arbeitersiedlungen rundherum, die auch sehr niedlich sind, nicht nur funktionale Gebaute.
Finally, I'll show you some pictures of the Zollverein Coal Mine in Essen (UNESCO World Heritage Object). Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures about the workers' settlements around, which are also very cute, not just functional buildings.

Die Bilder sind bisschen off-topic hier, aber eine Relation hat das Musical Starlight Express von Lloyd Webber zu Architektur. Da das Musical auf Rollschuhen aufgeführt wird, es musste dazu ein spezielles Theater gebaut werden. Es steht im Bochum. Da man während der Vorstellung nicht fotografieren darf, habe ich einige Werbeplakate für mich fotographiert.
Even if the images are off-topic here, but the musical Starlight Express by Lloyd Webber has a connection to architecture. Since the musical is performed on roller skates, a special theater had to be built. It's in Bochum. Since you are not allowed to take photos during the performance, I took photos of some advertising posters for myself.
