In my previous post I shared with you my experiences confronting the Blood Cult that plagued a region of the Cairn lands in Grim Dawn. To my misfortune upon returning to Devil's Crossing I found that an Ethereal mutant had attacked my refugee camp. Luckily there were no civilian casualties, but the simple fact that they had gone so far worried me and even more so when they attacked people I was sworn to protect. For this reason I decided to eliminate the ethereal threat from its root in the old capital. To do this, the first thing I'm going to do is to resupply myself with potions and elixirs and change my outfit for one that makes me even stronger while making it creepy so that when the ethereals see me they think I'm death. And I am.

Para mi desgracia al volver a Cruce del Diablo me dí cuenta de que un mutante de los etéreos había atacado mi campamento de refugiados. With everything ready, I start my journey and on the way I pass by "The Coven of the Witches of the Swamp" to ask what is the fastest way to get to the capital. I was very surprised to learn that there is currently no way to get to the capital, because between the swamp and the outskirts of the capital there is a huge field of ethereal radiation that kills any living being that enters it. But all is not lost, as the head of the coven tells me that she knows an unconventional way to cross the radioactive field. She invites me to dinner and then tells me that the best way to reach the capital is through the portals of the blood cult.

Ya con todo listo emprendo mi viaje y de camino paso por “El Aquelarre de las Brujas del Pantano” para preguntar cuál es la vía más rápida para llegar a la capital. Y me sorprendo muchísimo al enterarme de que actualmente no existe ninguna forma de llegar a la capital, pues entre el pantano y las afueras de la capital hay un inmenso campo de radiación etérea que mata a cualquier ser vivo que se adentra en él. Pero no todo está perdido, ya que la jefa de aquelarre me comenta que ella conoce una forma poco convencional para cruzar el campo radiactivo. Me invita a una cena para luego decirme que la mejor forma para llegar a la capital es a través de los portales del culto de sangre.

I listened to those words and could not believe my ears. What do you mean, we would use blood magic to shorten my path? Who would use that magic? My questions were immediately answered. It turns out that the current head of the witch coven was in her youth part of the Chthonian cult and knew some rituals to open cracks to Limbo. Apparently all the rifts communicate with each other in one way or another and she would try to make our scream connect with one near the capital.

So far so good relatively, but the witch demanded some favors in return, as well as some materials needed to open the portal. As for the materials, there were no problems, since in my adventures I had gathered more than enough resources. The favors themselves consisted of reactivating the coven's protection totems that were scattered around the swamp, as well as decreasing the monster population. This was easy, but it would take me longer than expected to get there. Good thing I did a bit of shadow hunting, as it has become popular in the community 😎.

Escuchaba esas palabras y no podía creer lo que oía. ¿Cómo que usaríamos la magia de sangre para acortar mi camino? ¿Quién usaría esa magia? Mis preguntas fueron inmediatamente respondidas. Resulta ser que la actual jefa del aquelarre de brujas fue en su juventud parte del culto Chthoniano y sabía algunos rituales para abrir grietas al Limbo. Al parecer todas las grietas se comunican entre sí de una forma u otra y ella trataría de hacer que nuestra grieta se conectase con alguna cerca de la capital.

Hasta ahí todo estaba relativamente bien, pero la bruja exigía algunos favores a cambio, al igual que algunos materiales necesarios para abrir el portal. En cuanto a los materiales no había problemas, pues en mis aventuras había reunido recursos más que suficientes. Los favores en sí consistían en reactivar los tótems de protección del aquelarre que estaban dispersos por el pantano, al igual que disminuir la población de monstruos. Esto era fácil, pero me costaría más tiempo del esperado para poder llegar. Lo bueno es que hice un poco de cacería de sombras, ya que se ha vuelto popular en la comunidad 😎.

Once all the tasks were done, the witch told me that the portal had been successfully created and gave me the location where it was, because it was very dangerous to open it near the coven. Without thinking for a second, I headed towards the portal, as I could not afford to waste any more time. On the way I can see from a ravine the radioactive field they told me about and can also see the huge ethereal monsters that haunted it.

Una vez realizadas todas las tareas, la bruja me comentó que el portal había sido creado con éxito y me dio la ubicación en donde se encontraba, pues era muy peligroso abrirlo cerca del aquelarre. Sin pensarlo, un segundo me dirijo hacia el portal, ya no podía darme el lujo de perder más tiempo. De camino pude ver desde un barranco el campo radiactivo del que me hablaron y pude ver también a los inmensos monstruos etéreos que lo rondaban.

When I got there, I didn't think about it for a second and jumped into the portal. As expected, it took me straight to the underworld where I was supposed to find another crack that would be the exit. History was repeating itself once again, hordes and hordes of monsters were rushing against me. But this time I was right to do so, since I had been the cause of their inability to access the human world.

Al llegar no lo pensé ni un segundo y me lancé dentro del portal. Como era de suponer, este me llevó directo al inframundo donde debería encontrar otra grieta que sería la salida. Se repetía la historia una vez más, hordas y hordas de monstruos se abalanzaban contra mí. Pero esta vez tenía razón en hacerlo, ya que yo había sido el causante de que no puedan acceder al mundo humano.

After a long walk in search of the crevice, I finally found it well guarded but not unreachable for me. The exit was in something that was undoubtedly the bridge fragment that disappeared from the main road to the capital. This further reinforces my theory that magical accidents cause some things in the human world to end up in limbo.

Luego de caminar bastante en busca de la grieta, al fin la encuentro bien custodiada pero no inalcanzable para mí. La salida se encontraba en algo que sin dudas era el fragmento de puente que desapareció del camino principal hacia la capital. Esto refuerza aún más mi teoría de que los accidentes mágicos hacen que algunas cosas del mundo humano vayan a parar al limbo.

The only thing left to do was to use the crack to go outside and continue on my way. But who would have thought that my luck would be so bad. The scream took me even deeper into the hellish domain of the blood demons, a place I really didn't want to return to. Many thoughts of betrayal and conspiracies were running through my head. Had the witch betrayed me? Did the Blood Demons know of my visit to limbo and modified the portal? Would I make it to the capital in time to stop the ethereal advance? This and much more will be answered in upcoming posts. Don't miss them.

Ya solo quedaba usar la grieta para salir al exterior y poder continuar mi camino. Pero quién iba a imaginar que mi suerte sería tan mala. La grita me llevó aún más profundo al dominio infernal de los demonios de sangre, un lugar al cual de verdad que no quería volver. Por mi cabeza rondaban muchos pensamientos de traición y conspiraciones. ¿La bruja me había traicionado? ¿Los Demonios de Sangre sabían de mi visita al limbo y modificaron el portal? ¿Llegaré a tiempo a la capital para frenar la avanzada etérea?
