Of course, the Elbphilharmonie, or as the people of Hamburg call it, the Elphi, was a must-see during our visit to Hamburg.

The Elphi was in the news mainly because of its uncontrollable cost explosion.
Originally, construction costs of 77 million euros were planned. But you have to ask yourself who really reckoned with 77 million.
The mayor of Hamburg was Mr. Ole von Beust. However, construction had already been halted during construction. It must have seemed a bit strange to someone at the time when calculating the costs. But fortunately there was a new mayor who then waved the project on. The final cost was 866 million euros.
So instead of 77, it was 866, but that's not so bad. And it didn't hurt the mayor. He was even promoted a few years later. To Federal Chancellor.
The opening was in February 2017.

No matter. Hamburg now has a new landmark. And to be honest, I think it's really cool to stand in front of it.

It was even more impressive live than on TV or in pictures in the newspaper. And if money is no object anyway, it was definitely worth it:)) Cum-Ex was more expensive anyway and it was the same mayor. -As I already mentioned, he was later promoted to Federal Chancellor. But maybe the people of Hamburg just wanted to get rid of him.

When we stood in front of it, we didn't yet know how to look at the whole thing. There is a visitor platform in the middle of the building that leads around the outside of the entire building. The plaza. That's where we wanted to go.

When you get to the entrance at the bottom, you first have to get a kind of walking ticket for the plaza, which costs nothing. But you can't get in without one. The tickets are available right at the entrance on the left at a counter.

Then you go straight up an escalator.
I've never seen an escalator like this before. It became clear that this was no ordinary house. The staircase seemed endless and was curved. This first escalator is 80 meters long and takes two and a half minutes.

The bend gave the impression that you were getting closer and closer to the sky.

At the end of this escalator, you approach a viewing window from where you can see the Elbe.

There is also a restaurant called Störtebeker on this first small level.

After that, there is a slightly shorter escalator that ends in a kind of entrance hall.

Here you begin to realize the dimensions of the building.
To the left is the Great Hall and to the right the Small Hall.

Unfortunately, we didn't have tickets to see the halls. We wanted to go to the Plaza and that's where we went from here.

The plaza is a freely accessible belt around the entire Elbphilharmonie. From there you have a great view of the city and all around.

Next time we'll get tickets for a concert beforehand. Not that I'm really into classical music, but if I'm ever going to go to something like that, it would be in this building.

Natürlich ist die Elbphilharmonie, oder wie die Hamburger sie nennen, die Elphi, auf unserem Besuch in Hamburg ein Pflichttermin gewesen.

Die Elphi ging hauptsächlich wegen ihrer unkontrollierbaren Kostenexplosion durch die Presse.
Ursprünglich waren dafür 77 Millionen Euro Baukosten geplant. Wobei man sich schon fragen muss, wer den mit 77 Millionen wirklich gerechnet hat.
Der Bürgermeister von Hamburg war ein Herr Ole von Beust. Da wurde allerdings schon während des Baues ein Baustopp eingelegt. Es muss wohl damals schon irgendjemand etwas spanisch vorgekommen sein, bei der Berechnung der Kosten. Aber zum Glück gab es ja dann einen neuen Bürgermeister, der dann dass Projekt weiter gewunken hat. Die Kosten waren letztendlich 866 Millionen Euro.
Also statt 77 dann 866. Ist ja nicht so schlimm. Und dem Bürgermeister hat es nicht geschadet. Er ist ein paar Jahre später sogar befördert worden. Zum Bundeskanzler.
Die Eröffnung war im Februar 2017.

Egal. Hamburg hat jetzt ein neues Wahrzeichen. Und ganz ehrlich, ich finde es schon sehr cool, wenn man davor steht.

Es war live noch viel beeindruckender, als im Fernsehen oder auf Bildern in der Zeitung. Und wenn Geld eh keine Rolle spielt, war es das allemal wert.:)) Cum-Ex war eh teurer und das war ja der gleiche Bürgermeister. -Wie ich schon erwähnt habe, ist er später zum Bundeskanzler befördert worden. Vielleicht wollten ihn aber die Hamburger nur einfach los werden.

Als wir davor standen, wussten wir noch nicht, wie man das ganze ansehen kann. Es gibt in der Mitte des Gebäudes eine Besucherplattform, die um das ganze Haus außen rum führt. Die Plaza. Da wollten wir hin.

Wenn man unten am Eingang steht, muss man sich erstmal eine Art Laufkarten für die Plaza besorgen, die nichts kosten. Ohne die kommt man aber nicht rein. Die Karten gibt es gleich am Eingang links an einem Schalter.

Dann geht es gleich mit einer Rolltreppe nach oben.
Ich habe noch nie so eine Rolltreppe gesehen. Da wurde einem schon klar, dass diese Haus kein ganz normale Haus war. Die Treppe wirkte Endlos und war gebogen. Insgesamt hat diese erste Rolltreppe 80 Meter länge und dauert zweieinhalb Minuten.

Durch die Biegung hatte man den Eindruck, man kommt dem Himmel immer näher.

Am Ende dieser Rolltreppe fährt man auf eine Aussichtsfenster zu, und man kann die Elbe von dort aus betrachten.

Auf dieser ersten kleinen Ebene ist auch ein Restaurant namens Störtebeker.

Danach kommt noch eine etwas kürzere Rolltreppe, die dann in einer Art Eingangshalle endet.

Hier merkt man langsam auch, in welchen Dimensionen hier gebaut worden ist.
Links geht es zum Großen Saal und recht zum kleinen Saal.

Leider hatten wir keine Karten, um die Säle anzusehen. Wir wollten auf die Plaza und dort sind wir dann auch von hier aus raus.

Die Plaza ist ein frei begehbarer Gürtel um die ganze Elbphilharmonie. Von dort aus gibt es einen tollen Ausblick auf die Stadt und drum herum.

Beim nächsten Mal werden wir uns vorher Karten für ein Konzert holen. Nicht das ich auf klassische Musik wirklich abfahren würde, aber wenn ich mir sowas schon mal antuen würde, dann in diesem Gebäude.
