We were in Bruges a few weeks ago.

Why actually Bruges?
Simple. The movie "See Bruges... and die?" has become a classic and we wondered if you actually have to die once you've seen Bruges.
To preface the whole thing, we didn't die.
But honestly, when we were in the city, we were so excited that you could almost take it literally.
What a beautiful city.
Whereby I have to put it into perspective a bit after three days. It was almost too beautiful. Everything in the old town is perfectly staged. Almost everything is just right. If you took away the tourists, it would be like traveling back in time a few hundred years.
And that's the problem. If you took away the tourists, there would be no one left. It's kind of like Disneyland only original.

But still, this city is beautiful. Just about every house there is clinker brick. Even in the small side streets, which are usually spared from tourists, everything is perfectly prepared.

Let's get to the facts:

Bruges, in French Bruges, in Dutch Brugge, is the capital of the Belgian province of West Flanders.
In the second century there was already a Gallo-Roman settlement there.
In the ninth century, a fortress was built to protect against the Vikings. Bruges is located only 14 km from the sea.

In 1128 the city received the city charter.

Then in the Middle Ages this city became rich as a trade metropolis.

In 2000 Bruges became a UNESCO world cultural heritage.

Reason enough for us to visit this city. We did not regret it.

From our campsite it was only about 10 minutes by bike to the city center. Here is the entrance portal, which we always had to pass through.

Right after that, the old town actually started.

With our folding bikes, the cobblestones were a bit uncomfortable, but we didn't have a parking problem for that.

Many small canals flow through Bruges. here is one of them.

And then we already arrived at the town hall square. Even if you can't see it well on the first pictures, it was really packed with people.

In the movie, this square is seen very often. There is also the Belfort tower.
There is realtiv at the beginning in the film a scene in which non-European tourists want to climb the tower. Colin Farrell alias Ray advises them against it, because it is simply too narrow for fat elephants. A funny scene. At some point in the film it is mentioned that on that day a somewhat fatter tourist got a heart attack in the tower and died.
We knew we had to get up there. And it was really tight. Since gibts but again nen post about it.

I was very impressed by the colorful buildings in the city.

This is the Belford Tower from below.

You can walk under it, and get to the courtyard of the building.

Then, if you go out the other side, you will come through the smaller alleys further and further through the old town.

Sure, there is a chocolate store on every corner. Belgian chocolate is a tradition there.

Almost everywhere you can see the canals. Here is a wider canal, which is also navigable by boat.

Since we didn't really have a plan of where and what was in Bruges on the first day, we wandered around randomly. There were highlight to be seen everywhere. Here was a passageway with a gilded crossing.

What we didn't know at that moment is that we were very close to the chapel where the blood of Christ is kept. The Church of the Blood. We didn't find that out until the next day. Logically, we were in there. Photos of this will be coming.

Somehow one house was more beautiful than the other.

At some point it got dark and we made our way to our camper.
Now, however, already with the plan, what we wanted to do everything the next day. Then we already knew, two days would not be enough. It was in the end four nights, which we have also fully exhausted.

Wir waren vor ein paar Wochen in Brügge.

Warum eigentlich Brügge?
Ganz einfach. Der Film "Brügge sehen.. und sterben?" ist mittlerweile ein Klassiker und wir haben uns gefragt, ob man tatsächlich sterben muss, wenn man Brügge mal gesehen hat.
Um das ganze vorweg zu nehmen, wir sind nicht gestorben.
Aber ganz ehrlich, als wir in der Stadt waren, waren wir so begeistert, dass man es fast wörtlich nehmen konnte.
Was für eine schöne Stadt.
Wobei ich muss nach drei Tagen etwas relativieren. Es war fast zu schön. Alles in der Altstadt ist perfekt inszeniert. Da stimmt wirklich fast alles. Wenn man die Touristen weg nehmen würde, wäre es wie eine Zeitreise ein paar Hundert Jahre zurück.
Und da liegt schon das Problem. Wenn man die Touristen weg nehmen würde, dann wäre da niemand mehr. Es ist irgendwie wie Disneyland nur Original.

Aber trotzdem, diese Stadt ist wunderschön. So gut wie jedes Haus dort ist mit Klinker Steinen besetzt. Selbst in den kleinen Seitenstraßen, die normalerweise von Touristen verschont bleiben, ist alles perfekt hergerichtet.

Kommen wir mal zu den Fakten:

Brügge, auf französische Bruges, auf niederländisch Brugge, ist die Hauptstadt der Belgischen Provinz Westflandern.
im zweiten Jahrhundert gab es dort schon eine gallo-römische Siedlung.
Im Neunten Jahrhundert baute man eine Festung, um sich vor den Wikingern zu schützen. Brügge liegt nur 14 km vom Meer entfernt.

Im Jahr 1128 erhielt die Stadt das Stadtrecht.

Im Mittelalter ist diese Stadt dann als Handelsmetropole reich geworden.

Im Jahr 2000 wurde Brügge zum UNESCO Weltculturerbe.

Grund genug für uns, diese Stadt zu besuchen. Wir haben es nicht bereut.

Von unserem Campingplatz waren es nur ca. 10 Minuten mit dem Rad zur Innenstadt. Hier ist das Eingangsportal, welches wir immer durchfahren mussten.

Gleich danach ging die Altstadt eigentlich schon los.

Mit unseren Falträdern war das Kopfsteinpflaster schon etwas unangenehm, aber dafür hatten wir kein Parkplatzproblem.

Durch Brügge fließen viele kleine Kanäle. hier ist einer davon.

Und dann kamen wir schon am Rathausplatz an. Auch wenn man es auf den ersten Bildern nicht gut erkennen kann, er war wirklich vollgestopft mit Menschen.

Im Film ist dieser Platz sehr oft zu sehen. Dort steht auch der Turm Belfort.
Es gibt realtiv am Anfang im Film eine Szene, in der nicht europäische Touristen den Turm besteigen wollen. Colin Farrell alias Ray rät ihnen davon ab, weil er für dicke Elefanten einfach zu eng ist. Eine lustige Scene. Irgenwann im Film wird erwähnt, dass an dem Tag wohl ein etwas dickerer Tourist in dem Turm einen Herzinfakt bekommen hat und gestorben ist.
Uns war klar, wir müssen da rauf. Und es war wirklich eng. Da gibts aber nochmal nen Post dazu.

Mich haben die farbenfrohen Gebäude in der Stadt sehr beeindruckt.

Das ist der Belford Turm von unten.

Man kann unter ihn durchgehen, und gelangt in den Innenhof des Gebäudes.

Wenn man dann auf der anderen Seite wieder rausgeht, kommt man durch die kleineren Gassen immer weiter durch die Altstadt.

Klar, ist an jeder Ecke ein Schokoladen Laden zu finden. Belgische Schokolade ist dort Tradition.

Fast überall sieht man die Kanäle. Hier ist ein breiterer Kanal, der auch mit dem Boot befahrbar ist.

Da wir am ersten Tag noch nicht wirklich einen Plan hatten, wo und was sich in Brügge befindet, sind wir wahllos umhergelaufen. Überall waren Highlight zu sehen. Hier war ein Durchgang mit einem vergoldeten Übergang.

Was wir in diesem Moment noch nicht wussten ist, dass wir uns ganz in der Nähe der Kapelle befanden, in der das Blut Christus aufbewahrt wird. Die Blutskirche. Das fanden wir erst am nächsten Tag raus. Logisch waren wir da drin. Fotos dazu werden noch kommen.

Irgendwie war ein Haus schöner wie das andere.

Irgendwann wurde es dunkel und wir haben uns auf den Weg zu unserem Wohnmobil gemacht.
Jetzt allerdings schon mit dem Plan, was wir am nächsten Tag alles anstellen wollten. Da wussten wir schon, zwei Tage würden nicht reichen. Es waren am Ende vier Nächte, die wir auch voll ausgeschöpft haben.
