Bruges is definitely a bicycle city.
Since I also travel a lot by bike, I was very excited about it. In part, the bike lanes were just as wide as the car roads. One must say, however, that there are also mopeds that drive under 50, also on the bike paths.
At first I found this very strange, but it made perfect sense.
The bike lanes were everywhere so wide that the scooters could overtake without any problems, and on the car road these then did not interfere.
A win-win situation. But that only makes sense if the bike lanes are also wide enough.

And they almost always are.

There it can happen already times that there is also on the cycle track at the traffic light something traffic jam. Such a thing rarely happens to me in Germany. If the bike lanes in Germany were safer, I think more people would ride their bikes in my country, too.

By the way, this was the way from our campsite to downtown.

In Bruges there was a public swimming area built in a canal. I thought that was a very successful idea. There was a part of the canal specially closed off to secure a swimming area there for free for everyone. The canal was actually not flowing at this point but really quiet.

When we were there, it wasn't busy, but there were people in the water throughout.

After that we went again a bit through the old town by bike.

This street was about 400 meters from the touristne center and yet everything was in perfect shape here. No garbage, no broken houses, everything like cleaned out.

A canal also flows around the city center and it is surrounded with a park along the river.

I always thought these windmills were only in Holland. But no, Belgium also has them standing around everywhere.

And then it was back to the old town.

We stopped at a small bar to get some refreshments.

The owner of the bar recommended this beer. A Brugse Zot.

Belgium is actually known for its wide range of beers. In retrospect, I must say that I prefer to have few beers to choose from, but really good ones. I was not so enthusiastic about the Belgian beers.

This was a short trip through Bruge outside the tourist mile. The city is beautiful there as well.

Brügge ist definitiv eine Fahrradstadt.
Da ich ja auch viel mit dem Rad unterwegs bin, hat mich das sehr begeistert. Teilweise waren die Radwege genau so breit wie die Autostraßen. Man muss allerdings dazu sagen, dass dort auch Kleinkrafträder die unter 50 fahren, auch auf den Radwegen unterwegs sind.
Anfangs fand ich das sehr befremdlich, aber es machte durchaus Sinn.
Die Radwege waren überall so breit, dass die Roller ohne Probleme überholen konnten, und auf der Autostraße haben diese dann nicht gestört.
Eine Win-win Situation. Das macht aber auch nur dann Sinn, wenn die Radwege auch breit genug sind.

Und sie sind es auch fast immer.

Da kann es schon mal passieren, dass es auch auf dem Radweg an der Ampel etwas Stau gibt. Sowas passiert mir in Deutschland selten. Wenn die Fahrradwege in Deutschland sicherer wären, würden wohl auch in meinem Land mehr mit dem Rad fahren.

Das war übrigens der Weg von unserem Campingplatz in die Innenstadt.

In Brügge war ein öffentlicher Schwimmbereich in einem Kanal aufgebaut. Das fand ich schon eine sehr gelungene Idee. Es war ein Teil des Kanals extra abgesperrt, um dort für alle gratis einen Schwimmbereich zu sichern. Der Kanal war an dieser Stelle eigentlich nicht fließend sondern wirklich still.

Als wir dort waren, war zwar nicht viel los, aber es waren durchgehend Leute im Wasser.

Danach ging es nochmal ein bisschen durch die Altstadt mit dem Rad.

Diese Straße war ungefähr 400 Meter vom Touristnezentrum entfernt und trotzdem war hier alles perfekt in Schuss. Kein Müll, keine kaputten Häuser, alles wie rausgeputzt.

Um den Stadtkern fließt ebenfalls ein Kanal und dieser ist mit einem Park entlang des Flusses umgeben.

Ich dachte immer, diese Windmühlen gibt es nur in Holland. Aber nein, auch Belgien hat die überall rumstehen.

Und dann ging es wieder zurück in die Altstadt.

Wir machten noch in einer kleinen Bar einen Stop um uns etwas zu stärken.

Der Besitzer der Bar hat mir dieses Bier empfohlen. Ein Brugse Zot.

Belgien ist ja eigentlich bekannt für seien große Auswahl an Bieren. Im Nachhinein muss ich sagen, dass ich lieber wenige Biere zu Wahl habe, dafür richtig Gute. Von den belgischen Bieren war ich insgesamt nicht so begeistert.

Das war ein Kurztrip durch Bürgge außerhalb der Touristenmeile. Auch dort ist die Stadt wunderschön.
