I already published a few photos of De Haan here a few days ago. However, we were at a campsite next to it and this is the beach we often went to.

The place was called Bredene and is located between De Haan and Oostende.

Right at the beginning there was the first hint that you should keep the beach clean. Of course, we followed this advice and picked up all sorts of things. But I've posted this before.

Apart from that, I'm always very impressed by the long sandy beaches of the North Sea and Baltic Sea.
I'm actually a warm-shower person and my favorite beaches are in the Caribbean, but it's beautiful here too. If there were still palm trees here and a few coconut sellers, I could come here every year.

All along the beach were these shells. It wasn't hard to figure out what they were. Certainly not shells. They are cuttlefish bones. Are they called bones? They're actually molluscs.
I was impressed by the amount of shells. They were lying on the beach every few meters.
There must be thousands of them living right on the beach.
As a diver, that would certainly have been a great experience. However, I didn't have my equipment with me.
The people here collect the shells, chop them up and feed them to the chickens.

This was also to be found in large numbers on the beach. Jellyfish.
We took the first one into the sea. As the second one was already a meter away and then the third and fourth, we left it alone. That's just the way it is.
We once had a beach in Cuba with Portuguese man o' wars. They are some of the most dangerous jellyfish there are and there were thousands of them in the sea and on the beach. Somehow the color reminded me of these galleys.

Above the beach were the dunes with a footpath.

We didn't know what this sign was supposed to mean.
It can't be "no swimming". This is a bathing beach. Maybe it means that there are no lifeguards here?

A market was set up on the main road behind the dune. This was a welcome change for us. Every now and then you need something other than the beach and peace and quiet.

Belgian waffles, Belgian cheese....

...and how cool, you could take pancakes home with you. I would never have thought of such an idea.
Flour, eggs and some milk (possibly water) for 8 euros a kilo. But OK, we're here with the camper and I certainly don't feel like stirring the batter and then cleaning the whole camper van again.
Since my girlfriend likes pancakes, she bought some.

And well, the rest of the market is like everywhere else. Stuff you don't need.

A few kilometers further on there was a small marina.

And of course the day ended with a beer. This time a Gulden Draak from Belgium.

10% alcohol by volume. Oops, I didn't realize that until I was writing this a few weeks later. I guess that's why it was still a fun evening.

Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich ja schon ein paar Fotos von De Haan hier veröffentlicht. Wir selber waren aber am Ort daneben an einem Campingplatz und das ist der Strand, an dem wir öfters waren.

Der Ort hieß Bredene und liegt zwischen De Haan und Oostende.

Gleich am Anfang gabs schon mal den ersten Hinweis, dass man den Strand sauber halten sollte. Dies haben wir natürlich befolgt und allerlei Sachen dort aufgehoben. Das habe ich aber schon mal gepostet.

Ansonsten bin ich immer sehr beeindruckt von den langen Sandstränden der Nordsee und Ostsee.
Ich bin eigentlich ein Warmduscher und meine Lieblingsstrände liegen in der Karibik, aber auch hier ist es wunderschön. Wenn noch Palmen hier wären und ein paar Kokosnußverkäufer, könnte ich jedes Jahr hier her fahren.

Am ganzen Strand waren diese Schalen. Es war nicht schwer herauszufinden, was das ist. Sicher keine Muscheln. Es sind Sepiaknochen. Nennt man die Knochen? Sind ja eigentlich Weichtiere.
Die Menge hat der Schalen hat mich beeindruckt. Alle paar Meter sind die am Strand gelegen.
Da müssen wohl tausende direkt am Strand leben.
Als Taucher wäre das sicher ein schönes Erlebnis gewesen. Ich hatte allerdings mein Equipment nicht dabei.
Die Leute hier sammel die Schalen, zerkleinern sie und geben es den Hühnern zu fressen.

Auch dass war in großer Stückzahl am Strand zu finden. Quallen.
Die erste haben wir noch ins Meer gebracht. Da die zweite schon einen Meter weiter lag und dann die dritte und vierte, haben wir es dann gelassen. So ist das halt.
Wir hatten in Kuba mal einen Strand mit Portugiesischen Galeeren. Das sind mit die gefährlichsten Quallen die es gibt und damals waren es tausende im Meer und am Strand. Irgendwie hat mich die Farbe an diese Galeeren erinnert.

Oberhalb des Strandes waren die Dünen mit einem Fußweg.

Was dieses Schild bedeuten soll, wussten wir nicht.
Baden verboten kanns ja nicht sein. Das ist ein Badestrand. Vielleicht bedeutet es, dass hier keine Aufpasser sind?

An der Hauptstraße hinter der Düne war ein Markt aufgebaut. Das war für uns eine willkommene Abwechslung. Ab und zu braucht man etwas anderes als Strand und Ruhe.

Belgische Waffeln, belgischer Käse....

...und wie cool, man konnte hier Pfannkuchen für zu Hause mitnehmen. Auf so eine Idee wäre ich nie gekommen.
Mehl, Eier und etwas Milch (evtl Wasser) für 8 Euro das Kilo. Aber OK, wir sind mit dem Camper hier und da habe ich sicher keine Lust, den Teig zu rühren und danach den kompletten Camperwohnraum wieder sauber zu machen.
Da meine Freundin auf Pfannkuchen steht, hat sie sich welche gekauft.

Und na ja, der Rest des Marktes ist wie überall. Krempel, den man nicht braucht.

Ein paar Kilometer weiter gab es noch einen kleinen Jachthafen.

Und natürlich endete der Tag mit einem Bier. Dieses mal ein Gulden Draak aus Belgien.

10 % vol Alkohol. Ups, das hab ich jetzt erst beim schreiben ein paar Wochen später festgestellt. Deshalb war es wohl noch ein lustiger Abend.
