Utilizing Former Water Tanks as a Place to Raise Fish - Homesteading
Hi #Hive friends and especially #Homesteading Community friends wherever you are, how are you today? Hopefully everything is fine and you can do your activities as usual.
I will share my experience of the past few days and until the day after what I did at home was finished I did it well, from this my days at home will be very enjoyable and hopefully more productive.
So, a few days ago I thought about keeping fish, when I was at home, the time I used could be more productive, because if I was at home I would rest more and the rest there was nothing important that I could do. By keeping fish, of course I would enjoy my time at home more.
I have a water tank that can hold 1100 liters of water, so I will use the water tank as a place to keep fish.
There are several steps that I must take before placing the fish in the water tank.
To make it easier to monitor and have more air space, I cut off the top of the water tub.
Then I placed the water tub in the right place and after that I prepared several other things.
Next I use an aquarium water pump to help provide oxygen for the fish that I will keep. At least it will help provide oxygen even though it is little or maybe it will only be a place for fish to play with the air bubbles that come out of the tool.
I bought this air pump a long time ago and used it in an aquarium, rather than wasting it, I used it again, of course this will be very helpful.
The material I use is a used mineral water bottle that I made small holes in (to make the holes I use the tip of a safety pin) and on the bottle cap I place the end of the hose connected to the air pump. Hopefully this assembled tool can function properly.
As a weight so that the bottle does not rise upwards when filled with air, I put small stones into the bottle as a weight.
Next, I used used plastic flowers that I used in the aquarium and put them in the water tank to make them a place for the fish to play. I tied the flower to a bottle that I had also given a weight to so that it wouldn't rise above the surface of the water.
Of course there is an important thing that I have to do after making the container for keeping the fish, namely buying fish seeds. So I went to the location selling fish seeds which is about 20 kilometers from where I live.
After sharing for a while with the fish seller, I finally decided to keep tilapia. Of course, it is one of the types of fish recommended by the fishmonger, both because of its shorter harvest period and because it is more resistant to disease.
The seller also netted the fish seeds that I bought and also counted them according to the amount that I wanted.
I bought 200 fish seeds, all the fish were put in plastic and then the seller pumped oxygen into the plastic so that the fish seeds would not die from lack of oxygen when I brought them home.
Before going home I went to the fish bait shop, I bought several kilos of bait at the shop and because the fish seeds were still small I chose small bait too. After that I rushed home so I could immediately put these fish into the container that I had prepared.
After arriving home, the first thing I did was fill the water tank with water, then I put in the air pump that I had assembled and it turned out to work well, air bubbles were seen coming out in quite large numbers.
I also put used plastic aquarium plants into the water tank.
Finally, after everything was ready, I started pouring the fish into the container. I poured it slowly to prevent the fish fry from getting stressed.
Hopefully none of these fish will die or at least not many will die, because according to information from the fish seed seller earlier there will still be fish seeds that die and hopefully only a few.
For me this is my first experience and here I will learn again how to raise fish until I succeed, Homesteading will be very enjoyable.
Thank you for friends who have come and seen my post this time. Hopefully all my friends like it, see you in my next post.
