Light & Darkness. That's Life. Don't Eclipse Yourself.

Hi lovely hivers!

The days go by, day breaks, then darkness falls, and night descends. We wait for the sun to rise again in the morning, illuminating a new day, a new life. It seems like a mechanical process, happening automatically, until one day we stop to think, to reflect—a thought that's the subject of today's post.

Because today is a day like any other, or perhaps not. There's an eclipse, a solar eclipse, and it's total. That is to say, during the afternoon, here, the moon will pass in front of the sun and completely obscure it. So, for barely two minutes, it will be dark during the day—well, it will be in the afternoon, after all—but there will be some difference in light; it will be strange.

And what will happen? Only that, but it gives us pause to think about how important light is in our lives, in every sense. And that's precisely what I wanted to write about in this spontaneous reflection, accompanied by two of my photos of an urban scene at night, with its interplay of lights in the darkness. It's the old riverbed of the Turia River in the Spanish city of Valencia.

And what do I think? That life is precisely that: light and darkness, as I said, in every sense. There are days that seem incredibly bright; we feel in harmony, everything flows, it's as if we're connected to something greater, and we feel illuminated, even blessed. We feel that light as special, magical, and divine.

However, at other times, the luminous magic fades, everything becomes dark and gloomy, we feel bad, sad, as if our bright luck has been extinguished, almost literally. Then our hopes are dimmed, we feel lost because we can't see anything, and not seeing causes a lot of uncertainty, and ultimately, fear—fear of not knowing what to do or where to go. Our path seems to disappear into the darkness, blackness takes over our lives, our motivation, and we think at that moment that it will always be like this, that perhaps it's better to get used to the darkness.

We resign ourselves while another part of us, deep inside, silently continues to hope for something better, something that will once again offer us a spark of light, that will allow us to see everything before us in perspective, a hopeful light to guide us again.

Today, in a few hours, an infrequent event will occur. Well, actually, there are about four eclipses a year, two solar and two lunar, and they tend to have many meanings according to cosmologies and cultures, especially those from the past, from that era when wise men seemed to know more, other things... Now we see everything with different eyes, but perhaps the anticipation is what hasn't changed, because nature always fascinates us.

But that unexpected moment of darkness, outside of normal hours, produces, despite knowing it will be momentary, a certain unease. Our sun and guide eclipses us, abandons us for a moment, perhaps so that we learn to value it more, so that we reflect and also appreciate those bright moments in our lives, so that we value every instant of illuminated life, because darkness can come, and what to do?

Simply remain calm, in this case, introspect, look inward to see who we are, our identity, our own inner sun, that illuminates us. Afterward, everything will pass, the darkness passes, gives way to the light, and everything will shine again. That is life.

Thanks for reading! Have a great and nice day.
