Faith, Gold & Snow - Friendlymoose Photo Contest New Round: RELIGION

(Edited)

Hello people!

Hey it's good to participate another week in one of the Friendlymoose photo contest and this is my eighth entry although I also participated in the previous version one, so more many times! This is a very interesting and motivating contest (thanks @friendlymoose for creating it!) because we share at least a photo related to the theme proposed in each round.

This week's topic is a curious one, perhaps unexpected, but it leads us to another type of photography that can be very beautiful and inspiring as well, and we can approach it in whatever way we feel most comfortable with. Or in whatever way illuminates us. It's the topic of "religion", and in my case, I've opted for a church, but one that's special because of its location and the general aura of that religion and culture.

Such as this, so, here my cool contest photography:

Orthodox church in the snow

And indeed, it's cool, in every sense, right? Well, it's one of the very beautiful Orthodox churches found in some countries, specifically in Eastern Europe. And there in Russia, I fell in love with that wonderful architecture of decorated and gilded onion-shaped domes that jut out toward the sky.

Imposing buildings that command attention, and all their symbolism, not only at the top with the crosses but throughout their decoration. Their iconography and aesthetic are very distinctive. I love it.

I've shared a few posts about Russia in the past, especially about Moscow, but also about other trips like the one I took to the "Golden Ring" area, from Rostov Veliky to Yaroslavl. And halfway there, well, I don't know, in the snow... a structural complex of churches and a spectacular wall in Sergiyev Posad. As I said, not easy to be a tourist when temperature is under zero degrees, you have to move constantly but those white and magical places worth it.

There we found among a lot of white snow around, a wall, the main church (the one in the first photo), and other buildings, like this one below, a small, humble one without much splendor but certainly of great historical value, perhaps because of the archaic, even religious, surprise we found inside...

What is this? It looks like a large wooden crucifix, but it's certainly frozen, or at least covered in frost, simple, without any great ornaments or decorations. A small wooden cabin, more decorated on the outside than on the inside, and as we make our way through the snow, we curiously discover, in all its cultural idiosyncrasies, the cold, the ice, the snow, religion, faith, and Jesus Christ before us. Russia is wonderful, and I hope to return.

Well too much cold is hard, we should get used to it first. In the meantime keep warm!
