Like a Snow Globe: Winter in Stowe, Vermont

I returned from Hawaii to find my little town of Stowe, Vermont, deep in a powdery blanket of snow. It was a 100 degree shift, which was tough, but the snowboarding potential kept my attitude positive. After a couple of bluebird sunny days, a thick new blanket of snow covered the town. I had to do a walk about to snag some photos and try to capture the feel of being in this quaint New England town in the middle of winter.

I also took my camera with me up to the top of Stowe, where a ski mountain resort provides access to hundreds of acres of pristine snowy wilderness. The record amount of snow that has fallen already this winter means that I can do some real exploring off piste. The glades, which is what we call the areas where we can ski through trees, are all open and amazing at the moment. Let the search for powder commence!

IMG_3924.jpegIt doesn't look like I'll be having an outside beer at the Stowe Public House tonight.

IMG_3905.jpegThe temperature might be negative here, but the outlook is positive.

IMG_3936.jpegThis might look like a hiking trail, but I snowboarded through this forest. Looks like I am one of the only ones to find this spot since the fresh powder fall.

IMG_3927.jpegIt was a white Christmas, and has been white with snow ever since here in Stowe.

IMG_3931.jpegThis is like heaven out here. Soft powder snow for days.

IMG_3909.jpegThe search for powder continues.

IMG_3933.jpegOff the beaten track here at Stowe Mountain Resort. Finding small trails through the forest.

IMG_3902.jpegEverywhere you look is skiable at the moment. There has been a record amount of snow in Vermont's Green Mountains. Stowe is exceptional this year.

As always, keep posting and keep traveling!
All my best,
Dai Mar
