I'm not gonna ask you to guess what these are because I'm sure you won't make the right guess, mostly thinking that you'll go for some kind of bird house. :)) Nope, I was surprised when I found out what these tiny houses are for, they are houses for the local squirrel population in a park. Now remains to see if they'll decide to move into new houses or not.

The cottages are beautiful, but I think they should add a rent amount so the squirrels will be interested. LOL

That’s interesting, I’ve never seen people feeding squirrels like that over here….
I don’t really care, but they seem to take all of our walnuts off our trees every year!🙄

Black or red squirrels is good, seeing too many of the grey ones is not a good sign, they're nasty :))
I think they have harvested all of my walnuts at least they are ready for winter Lol!😇

We have several walnut trees we have black walnuts trees, and English walnut trees!😀
They are very easy to grow in the north northwest!!
Walnuts are great, as kids we used to pick them even when they were green and eat the core while it was still white. :)

How did you crack your walnuts, that’s the hard part!🙄
For some we'd have to use a tool like a pocket knife, if no tool was available we'd just use some rocks to crack them open. Of course it was unavoidable to get our hand dyed in a strong yellow color that wouldn't come off for days.

We always did it the hard way smashing it with either a rock or a hammer…..

and sometimes hit it too hard and the entire nut becomes a blob of mash. :)))

Perhaps it's that wide to accommodate the overly packed cheeks of any given squirrel! 🥜🐿️🌰
