Kisses for your Spirit, Food for your Soul

avatar

During one of the most devastating events in my life, I ran away. Not like a child smashing their piggy bank and walking 2 blocks with $6.57 in their pocket. More like, "Family, do you mind if I find some solace for 4 days? Maybe 5?"

They knew what I was experiencing. My children were both adults, working full-time, living at home. Hubby was more than capable of tending the fort - and all three gave their blessing.

I ran away to Monterey.

I don't really like the beach, nor do I enjoy the sand. Getting wet is not my most favorite thing, either. I used to love it! Tossed by the waves, baked by the sun, I would flounder like a fish all day, like a water baby. As I aged, the hassle of it all became such an encumbrance.

But the ocean. Put me on a bench, or a rock, and let me stare for hours at the ocean? Waiting for a dolphin to break the surface? I'm in heaven.

Rolling waves, sizzling foam, seagull calls - these are the most tender kisses for my spirit. Basking in the eternality of the ebb and flow, and divining the wonders of the sea is where I find the food for my soul.

As I survey the surface, I get lost in the abyss. How deep does it reach? What creatures hide in its shadows? Destructive and life-sustaining forces meld together in its mysterious, unfathomable depths. Blissfully lost, and wondrously found, I am content.

All pictures are mine, and were taken on my soul-restoring trip to Monterey, California ❤️

This post was an entry for @beeber's Ecency Discord Posting Topic Week 29: SOULFOOD Thank you for a lovely topic! This worked so well for my soul this week! hehehe

There's something about the ocean for me... it is all about the soul for me.
it calls me. it feeds me. it nourishes me. it speaks to me.
I am a different person when I cannot get near or on the ocean for long periods.
I simply need it. and in some ways, I am better for it. I know my soul is, for sure.

I think that's the way it is for people who grow up on the sea like you! There is no other place you'd rather be :) I love when you get to take your boat out for the first time! hehehe

and I can hardly wait for you to get your dream!!!!

Sitting and enjoying the ocean breeze or just watching the water is my best therapy. It ease my mind, calm my nerve and relax my brain.

This post itself is food to the soul. Like, I just love to sit there and watch. The sound of waves is so therapeutic. Almost like it washes the stress away. This is. Beautiful post. I like it.

It really does! Isn't it amazing how the sound of water is just so calming.

You know - I wonder if it comes from the earliest memories of us being inside our mother's wombs and feeling the warm fluids surrounding us - and hearing the sloshing back and forth? hehehehehehe I don't know - but sounds like it could make sense! LOL

Now that I think of it that way, it could be an explanation. Also, humans are at one with nature. The way all the elements in our body can be found in our natural habitat. I guess when we are out there, it is a familiar feeling and we feel at home.

Give me the ocean, with cool music in my ear. The cold breeze blew on my tender skin and I can imagine my heaven on earth.

This place is worth running away into.

hehehe I agree - maybe I should think of it as running home - instead of running away? hahahahaha

I love Monterey so much - but there is a place that I love even more. Grand Turk. It is my Nirvana hehehehehehehe

You know I've always admired you for your writings —you have a way with words. This post is almost like poetry.

We have beaches here in Lagos and I enjoy spending time there on rare occasions. With this sublime description of the ocean, I can only imagine and hope to experience some day soon. Nicely done, Ms Dreem! 😁💖
