Planting Chili and Eggplant in My Backyard: A Mother’s Routine Even on the Busiest Days
Life as a mother is always busy. Between working online, doing household chores, and taking care of my family, my days are often full. But even in the busiest times, I make sure I never skip my small backyard gardening routine. For me, planting is not only about food it is also a way to relax, exercise and stay consistent with something that brings me joy.
I usually spend time in the garden at least three times a week. Sometimes it is only 30 minutes a day, but those minutes are worth it. Planting gives me a sense of routine and even though its cam be trying at times, the results make me happy and motivated. Gardening is not easy, sweat, dirty hands and sometimes I even feel pain on my back. But at the end of the day, it feels rewarding because I now my effort will bring food to the table.
One of the main vegetables I grow is Chili. I am planting native chili, and the seeds I use actually come form my own plants. Even if I only plant a small number each time, the important thing is that I remain consistent. Once the chili seeds grow into seedlings, I transplant them into the soil. That way, they have more space to develop strong roots and produce more fruit.
I decide to plant chili in the backyard so that no space is wasted. This way, even when I weed the area, I also see my plants growing. The little efforts every day add up. And soon enough the garden feels full of life. Of course, not every seed I plant grows. Some don’t survive and sometimes pests attack the leaves. But that is part of the reality of being a gardener, we have to accept losses and keep planting again.
Along with chili, I also planted eggplant. I started them from seeds, and after one month, they were ready to transplant. I actually had many seedlings at first, but I gave some to my child’s school. We have a garden contest, and I wanted to share what had. Because of that, I only had a few lefts at home, but I am still happy. For me, it doesn’t matter if it’s just a small number, what’s important is that I have something planted in the backyard.
This way, if my first set of plants die or get finished after harvest, I always have a second batch coming next. At least my supply continues, and I don’t need to worry that I will run out. That’s one lesson I’ve learned as a gardener. Always plant more than you think you need, because not all will survive.
Yes, gardening can be tiring. The sun be hot, the soil can be hard, and the pests can be frustrating. But the feeling of harvesting fresh chili and eggplant is worth all the effort. When I see the fruits of my plants it feels like my energy doubles. Pulling weeds, bending down to transplant and watering the soil may sound simple, but they are also part of my healthy routine.

Thank you for reading my post! I hope this inspired you to also try planting, even if it’s just a small space in your home. Gardening doesn’t have to be perfector big. What matters is being consistent, enjoying the progress and finding joy in watching your plants grow, because that’s the true reality of every gardener. 💚
I can relate. Growing up on a farm taught me the value of hard work. Fresh, healthy food from our own garden is such a blessing. Parents just have to keep going for the future of our children.
Yes, I agree with you. Growing your own food really teaches us to work hard and be patient. As a parents, we keep going because we want a better life for our children.

I've done a technique like that before, and it works!
