Friendly Faces of Joy: How Giving Rice Brought Happiness to Our Community

As part of the ASEAN Hive Challenge “Friendly Faces.” I want to share a story from our community that shows how small acts of giving can create the happiest smiles.

Rice is a basic necessity in every Filipino household. It is the heart of our meals, the comfort of our mornings, and the partner of every dish we enjoy. That’s why there’s a special kind of joy when rice is given as a gift, especially when it comes from a place of unity and care.

Recently, our community members participated in a barangay wide dance and cooking contest. The excitement was infectious as everyone, from children to senior citizen, worked together to represent our chapel with pride. What made it even more special was seeing everyone’s dedication, not for personal gain, but for the love of community and cooperation.

To celebrate their teamwork and spirit, our chapel wanted to give back. In addition to the prizes we also prepared rice giveaways as a token of appreciation. From the youngest children to our senior members, everyone receive 2kilos of rice with noodles and the joy on their faces was priceless.

Happiness was overflowing. In just a single glance, you could see smiles lightning up everyone face/ pure and unfiltered joy there is something magical abut giving rice, it brings the reassurance that families will have food on their tables.

I am truly grateful to have been an instrument in spreading this happiness. With the help of our sponsors my friends and even the suppliers from whom we buy seeds and fertilizers for our farm. This small act of kindness became possible. Seeing their genuine smiles brought me immense satisfaction. There’s a unique feeling that comes from giving something that truly matters.
