Again in Trieste in romantic Italy
Hi to everyone who loves travel and adventure. Today, I’m going to write about the city of Trieste, Italy. Many years ago, people from all over the Balkans used to go to Trieste for shopping. It was the same in my hometown; bus trips to Trieste and Istanbul were organized once a month. I went often, even though the journey was quite long. My first pair of jeans, my denim shirt, and—essentially—my entire wardrobe came from that city. The goods were expensive, but high-quality. Youth is a time of wild energy—nothing felt like too much trouble for us.Now, after 30 years—while traveling through a wonderful city I will also write to you about, and passing near Trieste—I felt the urge to stop by.Here you will find the Fountain of the Four Continents, Palazzo Pitteri, the Fountain of Venus, the Trieste Government Building, and the Town Hall. Nearby lies Piazza della Borsa, home to the Neptune Fountain, Palazzo Tergesteo, the beautiful Casa Bartoli, and many other notable buildings. This square is enclosed on three sides by these magnificent structures, while the fourth side opens towards the sea.

The square where we used to buy clothes.

What I particularly liked was the Great Canal. The Grand Canal is bridged by 2 bridges - Ponte Rosso and Ponte Verde, i.e. the Red and Green Bridges, and they are named after the colors in which they were originally painted. What I particularly liked was the Grand Canal. Two bridges cross the Grand Canal – Ponte Rosso and Ponte Verde, or the Red and Green Bridges, and are named after the colors they were originally painted. On one side of the Ponte Rosso is a statue of James Joyce, a famous Irish writer who lived and worked in Trieste. There are several restaurants and cafes around the Grand Canal, making it a great spot to grab a coffee or a drink and take a short break. Several significant historical buildings are located right by the canal—including Palazzo Gopčević, which was built by a man from Serbia; that’s one reason why we love Trieste, haha. The Church of Sant’Antonio Nuovo is also located there.

For the best views of the whole of Trieste and its surroundings, you need to make a little effort and climb the hill of San Giusto, on which the fortress and cathedral of the same name were built. There is also a public transport line - which you can easily reach directly in front of the entrance to the fortress.
I started on foot because there are a few interesting things to see along the way - and the ascent itself doesn't take more than 15 minutes.

I still have time to visit Miramare Castle. I wanted to return the same day, because otherwise I would have had to register my stay with the police. This castle is the city's most beautiful attraction.Situated in a stunning location right by the coast, it offers a magnificent view of the city in the distance and the entire Gulf of Trieste. The palace is also surrounded by a vast park.Situated in a stunning location right by the coast, it offers a beautiful view of the city in the distance and the entire Gulf of Trieste. The palace is also surrounded by a vast park. Miramare Castle was built for the Habsburg Archduke Maximilian and his wife, Charlotte of Belgium. It is said that he personally designed the park surrounding the palace. However, he did not enjoy the castle for long.He was summoned to Venezuela on a mission and killed there, and his wife lost her mind. They say the castle is cursed—well, I wouldn't agree with that. When you look out toward the sea, you’ll be enchanted—and the name itself actually means just that.Upon our return, we got back into the van just as we had arrived and headed back to Serbia. Incidentally, Trieste is located just a few kilometers from Slovenia part of the former Yugoslavia, my homeland which made the trip to Trieste significantly easier for us.
