Visiting the South Building of the School of Medicine of the University of the Andes, Merida, Venezuela. Eng-Esp
Hello dear friends of architecture and design, I am happy to greet you again and share some of the architecture of my city. I don't know if it happens to you, but I feel a lot of satisfaction when I return to a place and find it better than before.
This week the city has been dressed in fog and a perfect cold weather to take a walk, this time I was on Don Tulio Febres Cordero Avenue, I had some time without walking in this area of the city, and I ended up having a wonderful experience, seeing the south building of the Faculty of Medicine. A place that was my second home during the last years of my career.
As I have mentioned on other occasions, Merida is a university city and its main house of studies, the Universidad de los Andes, is distributed in different sectors of the state. Right on this avenue, is the Faculty of Medicine, where initially was also the School of Civil Engineering and there are still some important laboratories for our school, such as the soil laboratory, the laboratory of construction materials, pavements and environmental sanitation, among others, which is why this building became an important part of my daily life in my time as a student.
From afar, I was able to observe a completely renovated facade, with walls in different shades of yellow and orange, in perfect harmony. Very different from those walls, with loose siding, with the humidity very present and with the whole structure practically forgotten.
Without a doubt, I had to go in and take the opportunity to ask a few questions. The main entrance is still under construction, as it looks like it is in gray construction. When I entered I realized that those paths I used to use are no longer available, but it is a good thing, because they are restoring the whole area.
The main entrance of the building, it looked brand new, I don't think I had ever appreciated the beauty of its facade until now, I love the set of circular columns of different sizes. This is the entrance of an auditorium, but it was closed. As you can see the facade is composed of different geometric bodies, some protrude from the others creating an interesting visual aspect. In front of the auditorium you can see a wooden sculpture of a woman's body with some chains.
The building has three levels and has a central courtyard, which is a beautiful garden. Annexed to these modules, there are some corridors, which all together make a plant similar to an inverted nine as you can see in the image, which I took from one of the information boards, where they show the evacuation route in case of emergency.
There is no elevator, but in each corner there is a staircase core, in this building there is also the library Br. Domingo Salazar, open to students and the general public, only for internal consultation.
The bathrooms are in excellent condition. I really liked the fact that all the spaces were maintained, including the replacement of the roof and the asphalt mantle.
It was very interesting to walk through these corridors where I lived pleasant moments, it felt strange not knowing anyone, but I am glad to see a renovated house of studies, so that students can enjoy their classes and practices at ease.
There is still a lot of work to be done in the rest of the buildings of the medical school, which is huge, I imagine it is a restoration project that is being carried out in stages, I hope to see it finished very soon, because besides being a very important work for the university, it will highlight the beauty and bring joy back to this important avenue of the city.
Tell me what you thought of the South Building of the School of Medicine of the Universidad de los Andes.

Excellent that they have launched the project to recover these buildings so important for the training of future professionals.
Thank you for visiting this beautiful place.
It is very important, I hope it happens everywhere, my friend, it is important to recover all these spaces.
What a good friend that you are giving life to these structures so important for all those who make life in that house of studies. I hope they can completely renovate it, it looks like an abysmal difference in relation to the spaces that have not yet been paid for.
I am glad that the surprise was satisfactory. However, the university where I studied, the UDO, is in complete ruin, it hurts to see it, one of the largest universities in the country and only the memory of it remains.
The UDO is very well known, I hope you recover it, my friend. Thank you
the mural is very nice on the wall and i like it @doriangel
That mural is many years old, it's bigger, but there were people. Thank you very much
I only hope that this is no longer an exception and that the same thing happens in the rest of the universities in the country and in the other faculties of this university. Thank you very much.

The designs of this beautiful building of the School of Medicine University of Venezuela are truly a great joy. The design of the stairs with lab catalysts and the beautiful architecture with the wonderful batching designs are truly great. These special wooden doors give the feeling of feeling the beautiful 3D shape of the color. Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful architecture building with the wonderful design.
Thank you for stopping by. I really like the overall design and it is functional.
What a heartfelt and detailed walk down memory lane! It’s beautiful to see a place once dear to you being restored and treated with care. The colors, structure, and overall design look amazing. Thank you for sharing this lovely transformation and letting us experience it through your words and photos!
My pleasure, I'm glad you will like it. This university has a lot of meaning for me. Thank you
The University of the Andes is an icon of Venezuelan education. The medical school has a beautiful building, and the grounds look great. I hope they can finish the renovation soon.
Greetings!
That's right my friend, let's hope that the same thing happens in the rest of the colleges and universities in the country. Thank you.
Yes it is very nice, there is still a lot to be restored but it is looking good. The other faculties are also beautiful. Thank You

Amiga, to walk again in the faculty and see it so beautiful was very nice and nostalgic, now I want to visit the one of the sorceress, I hope it's nice too. You remember how many memories in these corridors.
