Garden Centre in Spring: Market Friday

gardencentre7.jpg

Well, happy #Marketfriday to all and of course, #MarketFriday is by our @dswigle. If you'd like to join in (and I hope you do) Hop on over to Her Post today to both read the lovely blog AND find out How to join in!

As my first photo shows, at one of my favorite garden centre here on Cape Cod, they were welcoming us all with open arms with not only signs literally heralding Spring, but with a joyous collection of Spring plants!

The glorious Hellebore

I can't ever think of late Winter Earl Spring without the glorious Hellebore. I adore these plants and the ability of their "flowers" to withstand our often below freezing temps always makes my heart sing.

This Variety was Pink Frost

I love all the shades these come in from deep dark black burgundy to flushes of cherry blossom pink and shades of chartreuse. I try to add at least one to my little collection each Spring. They can be a bit pricey, so this way I feel I can add to my little garden of them without breaking the bank.

Harbinger of Spring, the old fashioned Viola

And of course I save the majority of my Spring Planter budget for the good ole' reliable viola. I adore them. Of course their blousier larger cousin the Pansy (they are all in the same family ) are nice as well, but I almost always tend to get the smaller viola. I love the dainty quality ,they seem to tough out summer and winter better, and the SCENT!

OH that glorious Violet scent. As it fills my car on a chilly March day as I head home to plan out my planters, it is intoxicating and always makes me think of Spring.

I also love the TASTE of viola and when their scent is put into sweets, mmm, it's very old fashioned, but I love it.

I adore these French "pastilles" scented Violet as well as the good ole' Violet mint's my grandfather (my gardening hero) always had secreted away in his old tattered Barbour gardening Gilet.

So suffice it to say I bought a try of mixed violets.

Here are just some of the rows and rows of the violets as you enter the main greenhouse of the garden centre.

Further in, into the back greenhouses of the place, were the larger Pansy and also an assortment of other wonderful Early perrenials, that were not quite ready to be put out. However, they are tough stuff and if planted in a week or two, next year might not be flowering NOW but will do so by mid April.

Empty pots and a quiet Koi Pond await a few weeks when plants and life will fill this space.

They have an extensive outdoor area but alas only a few hardy roses and evergreens and fruit trees this time of the year. But I LOVE to see all the empty tables set up waiting for a few weeks when veg and fruit and annual and perrenial, ferns and grasses will fill it all...That is a sight to see.

gardencentre4.jpg
My new flower children on the terrace for a few moments before returning to the warmth of my plant room.

Home again and with my haul. I got a tray of violets as well as some amazing Primula's that are gorgeous multi purples, also a lover aubretia, which is a hardy perrenial called 'false rock cress' sometimes. It will spread nicely and flowers in soft purples. My theme for these planters will be soft purples with ochre and bronzy browns.

I hope you enjoyed today's #Maretfriday and be sure to join in with us, we'd love to have you.

Happy Friday All!! And Happy Spring Planting if you are a gardener and if not, why not buy a pot of violets and see how much joy they can give. On a windowsill this time of the year the warmth will scent your room with the most glorious aroma.

That's a beautiful marketplace and very colorful with all those flowers in full bloom! Spring has come indeed! Love those ones you have on your terrace 😍 I've not been to a flower market for a long while so this is a joy to see.

Yay for spring planting! I think my daughter would love more flowers in our garden, but our chickens free range everywhere and would probably eat them all before they had a chance to establish ^_^;

Happy Spring, my friend! @donnadavisart ❤️ I love, love, love your garden shop and I have to be honest! I am a hellebore girll! Was there any doubt? Absolutely not! I find them such a glorious breakout-into Spring kind of flower. Or something like that.

I remember you and the violas last year! Or was it johnny jump ups? I want to say viola, but we flower people will mix and match them or place them in a field of dreams. I can hardly wait for you to start planting. Between that beautiful cottage and your lovely garden, it is always a treat to visit your house. Thank you for taking us!! It was delightful!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
