Travel Post 47 - Shamian Island In Guangzhou, China
Hi there. Our travel group enjoyed our time visiting the Bruce Lee Ancestral House. We return back to the Huangsha station area, visit the mall, have some lunch and then visit Shamian Island.
Mall Pictures
The mall is called Link Plaza. It is a fairly big mall which has car dealership stores, restaurants, Western brand shops and China branded stores.
I did not get lunch photos from the Chua Lam dimsum restaurant. It would have been another blog post. This place had good dimsum with prices that are much more affordable than Toronto dimsum. (Purchasing power here in China is better than in Toronto.)
Getting To Shamian Island
When you exit Huangsha metro station, there is a Mall on one side and the road on the other side. You want to go to the side opposite of the mall. There are pedestrian bridges for you to cross to the other side.
This other side is Shamian Island.
Shamian Island Photos
Shamian Island was an important port for Guangzhou's foreign trade. From the pictures you will see that the buildings have a European style to them. The territory was divided into 2 concessions that were given to France and the UK in the 19th century.
When you enter the more central part of this island you will find statues in the middle here and there.
This place has a lot of trees and greenery. You sometimes forget that you are in a megacity in China.
Starbucks Coffee does exist here. It is kind of hidden.
I did not show pictures of this. There are newlyweds who take their wedding photos here. It makes sense to take wedding photos here as this place is very nice. Shamian Island is a top tourist attraction in Guangzhou. I recommend this place if you are in Guangzhou, China.
