Travel Post 32 - Shenzhen To Meizhou By High Speed Train

Hi there. In this travel post, our travel post go from Shenzhen, China to Meizhou by high speed train.

Our time in Shenzhen was fun. We got a Hong Kong day trip in there too. Looking back I wish we did a bit of eating dimsum but we got what we wanted from the electronics market in Huaqiangbei. That was my number one place I wanted to go to from the China trip. Dimsum can be eaten at other places.

From Shenzhen North Railway Station To Meizhou West Station

We visit the Shenzhen North Railway Station again. Our destination was Meizhou West station. This place was important for us to visit as we have family to visit. Our planned duration of stay was around 10 days. After Meizhou the plan is to return for Guangzhou for a 6 day stay and then end our China trip.

Train Trip

This trip was around in late August 2024/early September 2024. The travel time from Shenzhen North to Meizhou West is under 4 hours. This train was a D train. D trains are the second fastest trains behind the G trains.

Pricing for these tickets is not too bad. Around 61 CAD per person for a 1st class seat. First class seats have more leg room than second class seats. Second class seats are in a 3-2 seat configuration while 1st class seats are in a 2-2 layout.

In the middle of the trip there is a long stop at one of the stations. I don't recall the name of the station. At this station we had to rotate the seats around 180 degrees to the other direction. The train would go in the opposite direction. A slight inconvienence but it was not too bad.

If you do travel from Shenzhen to Meizhou in 2025 you will find that travel times are shorter. We found out about this information a few weeks later after this trip. Travel times is between 2 to 3 hours from Shenzhen to Meizhou. Ticket prices are cheaper too. They made a new direct train route.

Arrival

After 4 hours we arrive at Meizhou West station. The train ride was not bad. Since this was our seventh train ride (or maybe tenth, I haven't counted), we are very comfortable with the train system. I made sure to have instant noodle soup lunch on the train so I don't starve.

Upon arrival we had a family friend drive us to our destination in Meizhou. No need for taxi.
