he KW2 (Warehouse No. 2) was originally part of the Kaohsiung Port warehouse complex. It was built during the Japanese colonial era and used to be the Warehouse 2 and Warehouse 2-1 at Kaohsiung Port’s Pier 2. Back then, it handled storage for service ships, passenger ships, and cargo vessels. Later on, as part of a historic building revitalization project, it was transformed into what was once known as the “Kaohsiung Fisherman’s Wharf”. After some time, it was revamped again and reopened as "KW2" — the version we see today.

Since it’s located right next to Banana Pier, I kind of just wandered over while exploring. What I really loved about KW2 was the high ceilings and all the preserved industrial design elements. It gave the place such a comfortable and open vibe. Also, unlike the typical mall setup with identical booths, here every shop decorates its own space. It felt more like walking through a creative marketplace. There were tons of little cultural and craft stalls, each with its own personality. One thing that stood out to me was that there's even a hotel inside the mall. It uses a kind of light, modular room design. Each room looks like a scattered stack of building blocks, but comes with its own air-conditioning and keycard access. Pretty cool and unique!

If you still want more after exploring KW2, there’s even a ferry terminal nearby. You can hop on a ferry to Qijin (旗津), with a boat leaving every half hour. It’s super convenient for anyone who wants to go across and enjoy some fresh seafood. I used to always take the ferry from Gushan Ferry Pier with my scooter, or sometimes I would ride across the cross-sea bridge. Honestly, I didn’t even know there was another ferry route here until this visit!

To be honest, I first came inside KW2 just to escape the blazing sun. I was about to pass out from the heat! But once I got in, I found it actually pretty fun to walk around. Besides all the unique handmade products, you can also just chill in the open lounge areas inside the mall, grab a cold drink, and enjoy the view of Kaohsiung Port. Every so often, a cruise ship or tourist boat would pass by, and I couldn't help but snap a few pictures. The whole atmosphere was relaxed, a little artistic, and very fitting for a casual day out by the harbor. I definitely think it's worth a visit if you want to experience a different side of Kaohsiung’s port life.
