One weekend, a friend invited me to check out a cultural and creative fair, and of course, I agreed right away. Before heading into the venue, we stopped by a nearby food court to grab a bite. We ate, chatted, and joked around about everything under the sun, but somehow the conversation shifted to politics. Every time politics comes up, things get heated fast. Even though we generally see eye to eye on most things, our political views differ slightly, and before we knew it, our voices were getting louder and louder. I quickly changed the subject before people around us thought we were actually arguing.

Once we walked into the fair, I noticed right away how many young people were there—probably because it’s summer break, and they were looking for ways to kill time. But I also saw quite a few people carrying shopping bags filled with goodies. As they say, “where there’s a crowd, there’s money to be made”. I guess once you walk around long enough, it’s hard not to give in and start buying stuff. Even though a lot of the booths sold similar things, it was still really fun to browse.

One booth that caught my eye was called “Wage Slaves, Hop On Board”. Just from the name, you could tell it was aimed at young office workers. They were selling cute and quirky items perfect for the office, like decorative clips, mugs, and mats. Another similar booth was called “Life’s Happy, That’s Enough,” which sold pins, postcards, stickers, and charms. Their whole vibe was about emotional comfort—basically encouraging people not to stress out or overthink things and just be happy, kind of like embracing the “lying flat” mentality.

There were also plenty of booths centered around cats, like one called “Time to Pet Cats”, selling all sorts of adorable cat-themed merch. Even if you don’t own a cat, their products let you feel like you do. I saw a ton of girls crowding around, excitedly picking out their favorites and chatting with their friends—it was the kind of booth you could easily spend half a day at. Another booth, “Cat Car Gathering Spot”, despite having “cat” in its name, was actually a shop selling imported goods from overseas brands like Chiikawa and Pop Mart. They even had a ton of Nendoroid figures, and naturally, it was packed with people too.

Honestly, every booth was filled with creative items blending illustrations, trendy designs, and local cultural elements. From handmade jewelry to indie fashion and quirky little decorations, it was all super eye-catching. Even I couldn’t stop snapping photos while I browsed. And despite the sluggish economy, you could see that young people weren’t holding back on spending here. There’s that saying: “Your money didn’t disappear—it just turned into something you love”. Coming here, you really understand exactly what that means.
