Whenever summer arrives, that suffocating heat always makes people complain. And this year, it’s only early summer, yet the temperature already shoots past 35°C almost every day. Just walking down the street feels like stepping into a giant steam room. The air is thick, humid, and completely still. Sweat drips from my forehead and neck, and my clothes are soaked, clinging uncomfortably to my skin.

On days like this, most people would rather stay indoors. Malls, convenience stores, and libraries become the top choices for escaping the heat. But that day, I decided to brave the weather and check out the cultural and creative market set up under the palm-lined avenue. I figured the trees and tents would offer some shade, and they did. it was slightly cooler than the exposed streets, but the sticky humidity was still everywhere, and I started sweating buckets after just a few steps.

Still, the charm of the market kept me going. There were so many original stalls, each with its own unique vibe and personality. The market focused on independent brands, most of which I’d never heard of which actually made it even more fun to explore. From illustrated postcards and scented candles to handmade jewelry, each vendor’s work reflected their personal style and creativity.

One corner of the market had a hands-on workshop that drew quite a crowd. The theme was “Make Your Own Personalized Tote Bag,” using techniques like printing and stamping. You could choose your own designs and decorate a plain canvas bag, turning it into a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Some people printed their own animal drawings, others did leaf printing or used handwritten quotes and collage. The process looked super fun and actually quite therapeutic.

Even though the whole vibe of the market was great, I have to admit. It was still insanely hot. The vendors were constantly wiping off sweat, and one kind jewelry seller kindly told me that the organizers were offering free drinks at the service booth. So, I shamelessly made my way over and grabbed one. The moment I took a sip, it felt like I was saved from a sauna — pure relief! But of course, that cool feeling didn’t last long before the heat came creeping back.

In the end, I gave in and went into a nearby building to enjoy some air conditioning. I felt a little bummed, since there were still a few stalls I hadn’t checked out yet. But honestly, in that kind of weather, it’s just hard to stay outdoors for long. Hopefully next time, it’ll be cooler, so I can take my time and really enjoy the creativity and stories behind those original brands.
