Chatting about Starbucks Friends Day

The price of Starbucks coffee has always been a hot topic. Some people think it’s too expensive. After all, it’s just a cup of coffee that costs over a hundred dollars. But there are still plenty of people who love the brand. They enjoy the atmosphere inside a Starbucks café and believe that Starbucks sells more than just coffee. It’s a lifestyle and an experience.
However, I think Starbucks has gradually realized that its pricing might be too high for certain groups of customers. That’s probably why it started offering “buy one, get one free” deals. “Starbucks Friends Day” is a good example. It’s basically a “buy one, get one” event wrapped in the idea of connecting with friends. Honestly, if it weren’t for these promotions, I probably wouldn’t buy Starbucks coffee at all. It’s really quite pricey.
So, one day my friend and I picked a time and headed to the nearby Starbucks. The moment we stepped inside, we were surrounded by the aroma of freshly roasted beans and the soft rhythm of background music. That cozy Starbucks vibe really does keep people coming back. Of course, since it was a promo day, the place was more crowded than usual. No one seemed annoyed, though — everyone knew that “buy one, get one” days mean a longer wait. In the end, my friend and I waited more than thirty minutes before finally getting our drinks.
Maybe Starbucks isn’t the only brand with a “Friends Day”, but it has a way of bringing people closer together through coffee. What would have been an ordinary afternoon suddenly felt warm and special just because we shared those drinks. When we visited, it happened to be around the Mid-Autumn Festival, and Starbucks was selling its festive gift sets. Besides the traditional mooncakes, they offered creative combinations like “coffee lava mooncakes”, creating a unique Starbucks-style Mid-Autumn flavor.
The green siren logo of Starbucks has become a global symbol of consistency, quality, and taste. When people walk down the street holding a cup with that logo, there’s a sense of recognition and belonging; perhaps that’s part of the hidden cost behind the price. Looking at the dazzling display of mooncake gift boxes, I couldn’t help but wonder — is this all just a beautiful trap that makes us fall deeper into the cycle of consumption?
