哆啦A夢快閃活動 / Doraemon pop-up event

I saw on the news that there was going to be a two-day pop-up event in Taipei’s Xinyi District to promote the upcoming Doraemon exhibition. They said there would be a massive 12-meter-tall inflatable Doraemon and nearly 60 different Doraemon figures on display, along with some promotional activities happening from time to time. It looked pretty fun on TV, so I decided right away that I had to go check it out.
Even though I’m fairly familiar with the area around Taipei 101, Xinyi Shopping District, and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall—since I sometimes hang out there on weekends, but I honestly wasn’t quite sure where “Taipei City Civic Plaza” was at first. After a quick search, I found out it’s that big open space between City Hall and 101, often used for big events. But really, you don’t even need to look it up—just follow the crowd and you’ll get there.
As expected, the pop-up drew a huge crowd. I was kind of shocked when I got there , it was way more packed than I imagined! I guess since it was a weekend and the weather was hot but not rainy, a ton of people showed up just like me, hoping to get some fun photos. Everyone was striking creative poses, and some people even brought their own Doraemon plushies to take pictures with. The whole vibe was super chill and cheerful.
That said, the weather was seriously brutal. It was hot, humid, and barely any air circulation—just standing around for a few minutes was enough to get drenched in sweat. I had heard there would be staff wearing Doraemon character costumes to interact with visitors, but I think that part of the event got canceled or cut short because of the heat. Apparently, they only showed up briefly early in the morning when it was a bit cooler.
Still, I managed to snap some cool photos of the giant inflatable Doraemon from different angles, especially one with Taipei 101 in the background—that one felt so surreal, like a mix of childhood nostalgia and real-world landmarks. It definitely made the trip worth it. Sure, there wasn’t a ton of content or activities, but for anyone who enjoys taking fun photos or is just looking for a little joy in their day, this kind of pop-up event is more than enough. After snapping some pics, I grabbed a cold drink and slowly strolled back—just a simple little slice of summer happiness.
