Wednesday Walk Challenge : To the top of Mt. Limon, the highest peak on Rodriques island

This weeks walk is not a long and arduous hike. It is rather short and easy. But at the end the reward is a gorgeopus view of the whole island. This mountain called Mont Limon is 398 meter high and the highest point on the Rodriques island. This island is part of Mauritius, but located at a distance of approx 500 kilometers north-east of Mauritius. Rodriques is rather small. The lenght is 12 kilometers and the width is 6 kilometers. The island has gorgeous mountain landscape that does invite to some great hikes. Besides this hike to the highest point, I also did a rather long hike along the northern coast.

The starting point is from the town called Mont Lubin. After parking the car, we walked some 400 meters east of the town centre until we reached the entrance point and started to climb the stairs to the top. We followed the trail thought thick forest. In the beginning the stairs are made of concrede, but later they changes into wooden stairs and then a dirt trail. I think that if you walk here when it is raining it might become slippery. A sign at the starting point, says it will take about 15 minutes to reach the top. So, not a long walk.

It didn't take long before we were out of the forest and on the top. The view is amazing. You can see the sea that surrounds the island. The green, lush vegetation and great panoramic views is worth the walk. There are two viewpoints with a few meters between each of them, so we got an almost 360° view. Luckily it was not a cloudy day.
