STREET ART #259 – Some finds from the city of Porto, Portugal

avatar

Porto is probably the second largest city in Portugal, after the capital Lisbon. It is quite a big city, but I chose to stay in the historical part of town. That seemed to be a good choice. Everything I wanted to see and do was in walking distanse. On some of my walks I came across some great street art. This is some of the stuff I had the opportunity to take pictures of. A few times I took some daytrips out of the city by bus. From the bus window I saw a lot of great things, but I don't have any pictures of that. The first photo is a great portrait of an elderly woman. Possibly a local woman from Porto. A nice way of paying tribute to elderly residents. What I have managed to find out is that the artist is Daniel Elme. However, it is someone I know nothing about.

I noticed that many of the electrical boxes were painted, like the one in the photo above. Many did look a bit worn and some were had the kind of graffiti that didn't really appeal to me.

This beautiful, blue cat became one of my favorites. As you can see, it was impossible to take pictures! The street is a very narrow pedestrian street, so I got too close to be able to get the whole painting on the photo. I took several close-ups, because when I could see the cats head, I couldn't see where he was sitting. And vice versa. But it's interesting to see the cat with the boat in front of him. The oar is so long that it sticks into the ground the cat is sitting on. At the cat's feet, you can see a number of other mysterious figures.

This electrical box has a nice little dog framed by the typical blue and white tiles. These painted tiles are seen almost everywhere on buildings in Porto. I could have googled street art and planned to go hunting for if, before arriving. But I knew I wouldn't have enough time, so I desided to justtake it as it comes. It was nice to come across a small part of what Porto has to offer.

Beautiful selection of StreetArt. A few years ago I spent a week in Porto, also in the city center; there was street art on every corner. What a beautiful city with its history and delicious food!

Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

Have a wonderful day
