STREET ART #255 – Project 17 Walls are presenting 17 works based on UNs 17 sustainable goals

Last October I was in Aarhus for a day visit. I was there because I wanted to visit the famous art museum ARoS. But walking the streets in the old historic area, I came across a few pieces of amazing street art. It was not until later I found out that those three murals were part of the street art project "17 Walls" - 17 amazing works baced on UNs 17 sustainable goals. I promissed my self to go back to Aarhus. Now I finally made it, so the next few weeks I will share the rest with you. It was a day with strong sunlight, so unfortunately it was sometimes difficult to take pictures without creating big contrasts between light and shadow. They also don't come in order as that would mean going back and forth.
Those who are behind the project has had a purpose. They invited artists to paint murals that illustrate each of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in order to make the goals accessible to everyone. The founders have a belief about art being able to inspire in a way that words can't. Because the SDGs affects the intire globe, the founders had invited artists from different countries.
This mural is inspired by Global Goal nr.1: «Abolish poverty».

«Shared seas»
Artist: Mariana Santos, Portugal
The Portuguese artist behind this work has stated, among other things, that the subject is so comprehensive. She therefore decided to make it more symbolic than to interpret it completely literally. The artist draws comparisons with her hometown of Lisboa and Aarhus. Both are port cities. Traditional small-scale fishing is a way of obtaining food without using up resources, and thus we will be able to secure food for the generations that come after us. When a local community comes together to fish, they usually share the catch. In this way everyone gets food. This underlines how important equality is when it comes to resource distribution. She has said that the photo she has used as inspiration for this mural, was taken by the Portuguese photographer Artur Pastor.
Mariana Santos is known from exhibitions in many countries. What characterizes her art is nostalgia. Much of her art is based on old photographs, films and TV shows. For her, thise old photos and films deserves appreciation and life.
The next mural is inpired by Global Goal nr.2: «Stop hunger»

«Untitled»
Artist: Axel Void, US
The artist did not want to make any kind of comment or a title for his work. I have read that he does not usually say anything about his works. No pre-interpretation in other words. He leaves it to us, the viewers to interpret. The artist, Axel Void / Alejandro Hugo Dorda Mevs was born in 1986 in Miami, but he has grown up in Spain. Graffiti is something he has been in contact with since the late 1990s. He is a multi-media artist with a great interest in storytelling. What characterizes his compositions is an almost journalistic presentation. He explores the cultural and social structures between people as part of the global community. Void is a well-known artist who has painted walls in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
This painting is inspired by world Global Goal nr.3: «Health and well-being».

«Vitality».
Artist: Marat Morik, Russia
Unfortunatly the sun was in the way when I found this colorful and detailed painting. But try to look at the details. It tells us about ensuring that everyone lives a healthy life. The theme is health. It is all about well-being, both physically and mentally. The person in the picture shows through his equilibrium, the fine balance between metal and physical health. The painting conveys the ensurance that everyone should live a healthy life. The person in the picture shows through her equilibrium, the fine balance between metal and physical health. Well-being also affects those around us. The seagull seen in the painting steals food. It is intended to symbolize the need to remain calm, even when life presents challenges. There is so much in the painting that shows everyting that we can put in health.
The artist Marat Morik was born in Novosibirsk, Russia but lives in Prague, as far as I know. He became interested in art as a child and one artist in particular has had a great influence on him - Modigliani. Although he has an education in philology and economics, visual art is something he has always known he wanted to work with. In the late 1990s he learned to spray paint and got into the graffiti scene. In the mid-2000s he teamed up with Andrey Berger (Aber) and together they organized street art events. Around 2010 he started experimenting with techniques and became more involved in modern art trends. He creates illustrations, watercolors and oil paintings. In addition to making collages with combinations of differences techniques.
