STREET ART #241 – Urban art on the Galapagos Island

There are not many towns on any of the Galápagos Islands and those that do exist do not have many inhabitants. To conclude my trip to the archipelago, I stayed for a few days in the largest of them, Puerto Ayora on the main island of Santa Cruz. There seems to me just as many wild animals living here as well as humans. While walking along the sea side, I saw lots of iguanas. I had to keep checking where I put feet not to stumple apon one of them. If you want to sit on a bench, you might have to share it with a sea lion! Pelicans were fishing a few meters from a sea side restaurant while I was having dinner...

Native animals painted on a wall I passed everyday when I walked from my hotel and down into the main street.

The last few days I was only in Puerto Ayora and I think I came across almost every shop in the center. It was on these trips, in search of souvenirs, that I came across the street art. It is perhaps not so surprising that most of it shows the wildlife on the islands and the desire to preserve and protect both wildlife and vegetation.

This is quite a long wall, so to be able to get good photos, I had to divide it into sections. It is located in the center of town, at the sea front.

A Galápagos penguin. I only saw a couple of them in real life, on one of the other islands. It is rather small, when I saw in real life. What is special about them, is that they are the only species that lives in the tropics. But they are really just so cute.
