STREET ART #214 – Street artist Heracut in Stavanger, Norway

I have just spend the weekend in Stavanger. It's a rather large city in the south-western corner of the country. This city is considered the «oil capital» of Norway. A very international city because of that. I arrived by train from my hometown Kristiansand. At the platform here at the train station the German artist Hera has painted this stunning mural.

The whole mural is 328 feet in length! I had to walk along the rail track and take the photos in sections. The mural shows a girl with a backpack. She has several narwhales swimming in front of her. Some are also behind her. She is holding on to one of them. There are several birds included as well.

Above the mural you will find the words: « We all are birds of migration. Some with feathers, some without». I think the train station is the perfect place for a mural that has to do with traveling / mooving from one place to another. A trainstation is a place where you either start or end a journey. Stavanger is the end station. People travel. Some do it to explore. Some are forced to migrate. Not only today. People have moved and spread across our globe for several thousand years. Animals to excactly the same. How would you interprit her mural?

Stavanger has an annual street art festival – The NuArt Festival. The city of Stavanger invites artist to paint the city. Hera worked on this huge mural for several days. It was done in a collaboration with this NuArt Festival in 2023. While she was in Stavanger, she also painted some small pieces of work.

This is one of the smaller works. It's painted on the wall of another building that is part of the train station. I am glad that I arrived by train.
