STREET ART #213 – Colorful, happy elephant in Berlin, Germany

Berlin certainly has it share of wonderful street art. I found this colorful elephant at the Mehrinplatz in the centre of Berlin. This square is a roundabout with a column in the center. Next to it you will find this building with the elephant. There is a sports ground in front of it where some kids were playing basketball. The place is located in a short walking distance and a straight line from Checkpoint Charlie. Because the walking distances were rather short we had lots of time that day. So after visiting the checkpoint, we just kept on walking down Friedrickstraße and ended up here.

The artist is Jadore Tong. He is a French-Cambodian artist who is known for this particular mural in Berlin. He lives in this city why this is where you will find most of his street art. I found out that he is on Instagram and checked fto see what else he has produced. I read that the inspiration to paint the elephant was a ceremony from India where elephants brought joy to people. When looking at it, I can see how it lightens up the area. We easily spotted the mural because of it's vivid colors. Even there are trees in the front, we could see parts of it as soon as we turned around the corner. The colors are a great contrast to the gray buildings.

The mural seem to continue around the corner. The theme here is creatures in the Ocean. I didn't find a signature, so I don't know who did this work. It looks like a continuation of the elephant, but I am not sure if this is the work of Tong as well.
