PhotoFeed Contest - Landscape Photography #33 : Landscapes of Easter Island (Chile)

avatar

Easter Island is probably one of the most remote places in the world. We did feel very isolated from the rest of the world. It belongs to Chile, although it is difficult to see any common features. The island is approx. 3700 km. from the coast of Chile. Also, it has a Polynesian culture and therefore has more similarity with the other Polynesian islands. It is best known for its giant statues scattered all over the island. Although it is these statues and archeaological sites that we associate with Easter Island, it also has a wonderful, green and lush landscape. It is worth to take some hikes or just enjoy the beaches. First photo is my entry to @photofeed contest https://ecency.com/hive-153349/@photofeed/photofeed-contest-landscape-photography-round-33

The island is only 24 km. long and 12 km wide, so it's easy to get around the island. We had a rental car for the whole week. That turned out to be a good idea. It's faily easy to drive around the island. In addition to driving around the island to look at statues and archaeological excavations, we went on a number of hikes on foot. Planning to stay a week gave us enough time to explore more than just the statues. There are some great beaches too.

All the pictures show the landscape in the middle of the island. We drove in a rented car, but stopped at several places before we finally parked where the road to the highest point on the island starts. It is the name of this point of the island is Terevaka. The hight is 507 m above sea level. From the top you can see the whole island if visibility is good. You see nothing but the sea as far as the eye can see. That really made us feel isolated from the rest of the world. The photos are from different hikes in the center of the island.

So beautiful. I heard about Easter Island before but I'm not aware it's part of Chile's territory.
