Amazing waterfall in Flores island, Azores (Portugal)

The nine islands that make up the Azores are located far out in the Atlantic Ocean. They belong to Portugal and are easily accessible from Lisbon. The islands have a unique landscape created by volcanic activity. On the islands you will find extinct craters and mountain peaks. These islands are definitive a hiker's paradise. The photos shows a green, lush landscape that most of all reminds me of a scene from Jurassic Park.





The photos shows the waterfall and part of the lake named Poco Ribeira do Ferreiro on the island of Flores, which is the outermost of the islands. It is green, mountainous and lush, but sparsely populated. Along the west coast, you will be able to go on a hike that is Europe's most westerly. You generally follow the coast from south to north or vice versa. We stayed in a small town in the middle of this route. In that way we could split the hike over two days. This beautiful place with a lake and several falls is just a couple of kilometers from the town we stayed in - Fajã Grande. But you have to make a detour from the main road to get here. The sighns says 600 meters, but the terrain was rocky and quite challenging. But worth the effort when we saw this amazing sight!

Beautiful waterwalls... it's a shame the velociraptors weren't hidden in this vegetation, as it makes you want to walk faster 😀

Looks like a lovely island, but they seem to have tropical forests.

It is a beautiful island,so green. You are right. It looks tropical, but it is not. I think it has to do with the location and climate.
