I had been hired to take some pictures of a band called Desierto Polar, who were performing at the Hesperia Hotel. I arrived at the venue with my camera and backpack, thinking I had everything I needed to do a good job. However, when I entered the room where the musicians were about to play, I realised that there was a problem: the place was very dark and had no light source other than the dim lights of the stage.

I looked in my backpack for the flash I always carry with me, but to my surprise, I had left the batteries at home charging. I felt very frustrated and nervous, thinking that I was going to ruin the job. I explained the situation to the band, and they told me not to worry, that they trusted me. Which made me considerably more nervous.

I decided to improvise with what I had on hand: I used my 50mm f1.8 lens and a 24mm f2, which for those who don't know, are special camera lenses that let a lot more light into the sensor. On top of that, I had to coordinate with my surroundings because the lights are so erratic at concerts that they point in all directions and to different places, so I had to be very aware of when they were pointing at the band members to get the shot at the right moment.

When I checked the images on my computer, I was very satisfied with the result. I made a lot of mistakes, but in the end I managed to correct them in Photoshop. The photos had a very interesting artistic touch, which the members of Desierto Polar liked very much. They congratulated me for my work and invited me to lunch after I gave them the photos. But in the end I learned an important lesson on this occasion: always check your equipment before leaving home and avoid forgetting important things.

Me habían contratado para tomar unas fotografías a una banda llamada Desierto Polar, que se presentaría en el hotel Hesperia. Llegué al lugar con mi cámara y mi mochila, pensando que tenía todo lo necesario para hacer un buen trabajo. Sin embargo, cuando entré en el salón donde me estaban por tocar los músicos, me di cuenta de que había un problema: el lugar era muy oscuro y no tenía ninguna fuente de luz, más que de las tenues luces de la tarima.

Busqué en mi mochila el flash que siempre llevo conmigo, pero para mi sorpresa, había dejado las baterías en casa cargando. Me sentí muy frustrado y nervioso, pensando que iba a arruinar el trabajo. Le expliqué la situación a la banda, y ellos me dijeron que no me preocupara, que confiaban en mí. Lo que hizo que me pusiera considerablemente más nervioso.

Decidí improvisar con lo que tenía a mano: usé mi lente 50mm f1.8 y un 24mm f2, que para quienes no lo saben, son lentes de cámara especiales que dejan entrar mucha más luz en el sensor. Además de eso, tuve que coordinarme con mi entorno debido a que las luces son tan erráticas en los conciertos que apuntan en todas direcciones y a diferentes lugares, por lo que tenía que estar muy al pendiente de cuando estas estaban apuntando hacia los miembros de la banda para tomar la fotografía en el momento justo.

Cuando revisé las imágenes en mi computadora, quedé muy satisfecho con el resultado cometí muchos errores, pero al final logre corregirlos en Photoshop. Las fotos tenían un toque artístico bien interesante, que les gustó mucho a los integrantes de Desierto Polar. Me felicitaron por mi trabajo y me invitaron a comer luego de entregarles las fotos. Pero al final Aprendí una lección importante en esta ocasión: y es que siempre debes chequear tu equipo antes de salir de casa y evitar olvidar cosas importantes.
