FUN FRIDAYS ~ Getting Used With The Old Prosumer Camera

avatar

Hi Everyone

For the second time I am skipping today Fitness Fridays post. I want to make some GIF for the workout and it does not work well. So I have to retake all but I don't think the time is enough for today. I hope next week I can finish my own GIF on my workout or exercise, maybe with some luck... I can make them in 3speaks video... let see next week

Ok today I would update what I have post last week, about my Nikon Prosumer L830. I have been using it in order to get adapted with it. It is an old gadget so yeah, not as "automatic" compared to nowadays gadgets and handhelds.

I have been practicing taking some shots on my yards, in this post I will share this flower tree, Most people here call this one ASOKA, and its universal name is IXORA. I do not know why I have Ixora in my yard, maybe someone planted it when I hadn't got back living here.

Why Cellphone Camera Doesn't Work

This is the shot I get from my phone, it has 50 megapixels camera. The colouring is great, the detail is good, you can zoom it several time without easily blurred. The problem is only one, it can not get a detail on FOCUS. For panoramic photo, its great, but when you want to focus on a single thing, it has some limitation.

Well, in the past I could attach this monocular lens for taking a telephoto shot. However this only works well in past. Current cellphone has multiple lens, some are not suitable anymore with this kind of attachment. Some are suitable but their AI or photo processing will get confused and in the end you would not even get any good shots.

The Prosumer Shots

The first image on top is one of the shot taken by my Canon L830 prosumer camera. Let's take another one.

Canon L830 only has 20megapixels camera, compared to my cellphone which has 50megapixels... It has some weakness as follow:

  1. The resolution lower, so it can not be zoomed several times and it is harder to cookie cutting because it will make the image a bit dull.
  2. Image size is smaller, color deepness and sharpness are lower.

ok so the camera lose, right? Not really, in term of image quality, this camera still win. Prosumer althought it is an mid level quality, not the best or good one, still give finer detail in the focus. It has a lot better lens than my cellphone. It has larger image sensor too, making it able to take a very detail on the focus.

For example this another shot, you can see clearly the water drops on the flowers. The shots from my cellphone can't take detail on those drops, instead it makes blurred the flowers. All of this because of the difference in lens quality.

Anyway do you notice there was a fly there? that Mr fly came and moving around there as if asking me to take some shots of him. Well he disturbed my camera autofocus several times, but I think right now he is happy everyone can see him there.

Preference on Cellphone

If you ask me which one is better, cellphone camera or stand alone camera, my answer is back to the person him/herself. If you like photography or want to learn or do this stuff, then go get some Camera. if not, then please don't get it, you only waste your money here.

I have a prosumer because in the past my job demanded me to take some image as part of work progresses report and quality inspection documentation, however those place usually prohibit us on bringing cellphone inside. So we only able to have a camera in, and that camera was tagged first and monitored heavily so my client could make sure no inside image could leak outside or on public domain.

But in general like now, I am more on promoting cellphone camera than a prosumer one. First because of the quality is not much different. I bought this camera in 2015, and in that time no cellphone camera could make this clear and well detail image. Right now many cellphones can. However you need to take accounts on this issue:

  1. Big megapixels camera doesn't guarantee it is a good camera. Many manufacturers use cheap lenses and thats why you need to pay attention more on the camera specification.
  2. See on the lens brand. Good lens usually proud with their brand, such as Leica, Carl Zeiss or Hasselblad. If none of these, high possibility the lens is a shitty one.
  3. Check on the specific camera function and limitation. For example there is a phone camera that has a bad appenture, so it only able to take breathtaking picture outside. Inside or with less light, it becomes awful.
  4. Never believe cheap cellphone or entry level ones could take great photos. Lens is not cheap, that alone denies all marketing gimmick.

Ok that's all, I hope I do not put wrong information here, because myself is an amateur in this field. I am still frequently asking some guidance from some fellows here, especially @ekavieka , on how to get a good shot.

ok that's for today post, thanks for visiting here

I still think in some way prosumer still win with the image quality om. You said it right, although some camera has bigger sensors, it doesn't mean it will take better photos since the lens is different, the result will also be different.
I smell more great shots will come from you. : )
