It was 6th day of our journey and the day started with a visit to 'SAMUDRIKA Naval Marine Museum' on this day.
The museum is located on haddo road near the 'Andaman Teal House' in Port Blair and it is maintained by Indian Navy.
The museum has five sections presenting marine life, history of Andaman Islands, geographical information, people of Andaman and archaeology. We were enthralled on the entrance sawing this giant Skelton.
Going forward we saw some statues of 'Jarwa' tribe standing in the grass. The museum has details about this tribe and their lifestyle. They are indigenous people of Andaman and they live in some parts of middle and south Andaman.
They are believed to have inhabited this place for about thousands of years. But even today this tribe don't want to have any contacts with outsiders
Though the museum was not very amazing, it definitely enlightens you about the culture, lifestyle and some amazing facts about the Andaman Nicobar archipelago.
Some past names of Andaman Nicobar Islands:
Angdaman Islands (Islands of good fortune)
Lo-jen-kuo' (Land of Naked)
Angamanain
Island of God
Interesting to know that the 'Andaman' name is derived from Hanuman the Indian god.
There was a vast collection of cells, corals and a few species of colourful fishes of the sea around the islands.
Overall it was a nice experience in the museum. Next for the day was 'Chatham Saw Mill' I will cover that in next blog.
Thanks for visiting, hope you liked the content.
Keep reading, keep exploring, Have a great day.
