A walk in Barcelona with tons of pictures

What a vibrant and interesting city

As a smart and digital worker, I stayed a week close to Barcelona and here are the first results in pictures.

In my quest for unique and off-the-beaten-path experiences, I find myself drawn to the vibrant and often overlooked corners of #Barcelona, Spain. While many tourists flock to the iconic Sagrada Familia (which we did as well) and Park Güell, I yearn to explore the city's hidden treasures. First on my list is the enchanting neighborhood of Gràcia, a bohemian enclave filled with narrow streets, cozy cafes, and local artisans. Its authentic charm and sense of community offer a glimpse into the heart of Catalan culture. During the last trip, I had a lovely morning walking the streets of Garcia.

The Sagrada Familia comes always with some construction

Next, I'm eager to discover the Bunkers del Carmel, a secluded hilltop spot offering panoramic views of the city. Far from the tourist crowds, this tranquil vantage point allows me to admire Barcelona's sprawling beauty in serenity. Lastly, I'm drawn to the surreal and lesser-known sculptures of El Raval's Carrer de Sant Pau. These whimsical artworks by artist Joan Miró add a touch of magic to the city's streets, serving as a testament to Barcelona's artistic soul. In Barcelona, it's the hidden gems that truly capture my wanderlust.

Delicious food

After all that walking, we got hungry what is better than the "Mercado de la Boqueria" with all the typical but from my understanding overpriced food stalls?

The "tourist" market at the Ramblas.

IMG_4206.jpeg

In my pursuit of Barcelona's less-traveled wonders, the Mercado de la Boqueria emerges as a captivating gem in the heart of the city. While the masses may flock to La Rambla, I am irresistibly drawn to this bustling food market. What captivates me is not only the kaleidoscope of colors and aromas that greet visitors but also the genuine, unfiltered glimpse into Catalan culinary traditions.

As I wander through the market's labyrinthine alleys, I am surrounded by stalls brimming with an array of fresh produce, seafood, cheeses, and spices. What truly enchants me are the conversations between locals and vendors, the animated exchanges about recipes, and family secrets that add a layer of authenticity to this market experience.

IMG_4205.jpeg

While it may not be a hidden secret, the Mercado de la Boqueria offers a vibrant and sensory journey, allowing me to taste and savor the essence of Catalan cuisine. Here, I can savor a fresh fruit smoothie, sample traditional Spanish tapas, or indulge in the vibrant colors of exotic fruits, all while sharing smiles and stories with the welcoming vendors. It's the market's lively, unpretentious atmosphere that makes it a cherished stop on my Barcelona adventure, reminding me that sometimes the most memorable experiences are found in plain sight.

That Ham called "Jamon Iberico"

Barcelona is renowned for its exquisite jamón, particularly the famous "Jamón Ibérico." This premium Spanish ham is a culinary treasure known for its exceptional flavor and texture. Sliced thinly and enjoyed on its own or with other tapas, the rich and nutty notes of Jamón Ibérico are a testament to the care taken in raising and curing the prized Iberian pigs. Whether sampled in a local bodega or at the bustling Mercado de la Boqueria, Barcelona's ham is a savory delight that encapsulates the essence of Spanish gastronomy.

Sure, I had to taste a few of those slices

The Empanadas scence

Barcelona's empanadas exhibit a diverse range of styles, reflecting the city's rich culinary heritage and its embrace of international flavors. Traditional Catalan empanadas, known as "coca," are often rectangular or round pastry pockets filled with local ingredients like spinach, pine nuts, and raisins. These savory creations are emblematic of Catalonia's unique blend of Mediterranean and Spanish influences.

Additionally, Barcelona's empanada scene has been enriched by immigrants from various Latin American countries. Argentine-style empanadas, for instance, are widely popular and feature flaky pastry envelopes stuffed with a variety of fillings such as beef, onions, and spices. Chilean empanadas, another beloved variation, often include ingredients like minced meat, hard-boiled eggs, olives, and even a touch of sweetness.

Furthermore, some innovative Barcelona chefs have introduced gourmet empanadas, combining traditional Spanish flavors with international twists. These empanadas may feature ingredients like Serrano ham and Manchego cheese, creating a fusion of culinary influences.

Empanadas Caseras

The beauty of Barcelona's empanada scene lies in its ability to cater to diverse palates, offering a taste of both the city's Catalan roots and the global flavors that have shaped its culinary landscape. Whether you crave a classic coca or an exotic fusion, Barcelona's empanadas promise a delightful culinary adventure.

More Barcelona is to come

I have tons of other cool stories and will try to make some posts out of in the next weeks

Sure, they have some drinks as well

We had a few refreshing Estrella while walking the city

IMG_4210.jpeg

Estrella beer is an iconic Spanish brew that captures the essence of Mediterranean refreshment. Known for its crisp and golden profile, this lager embodies the laid-back yet vibrant spirit of Barcelona and the wider Catalonia region. Brewed with carefully selected malt and hops, Estrella's taste is balanced and slightly sweet, making it a perfect complement to the city's sunny climate and culinary delights.

With a heritage dating back to 1876, Estrella continues to be a favorite choice among locals and travelers alike. Its distinctive red and gold label mirrors the fiery passion of Catalonia, while each sip carries the warmth and conviviality of Spanish culture. Whether enjoyed in a seaside chiringuito or a quaint tapas bar, Estrella beer is a quintessential part of the Barcelona experience, offering a taste of tradition and an invitation to savor life's simple pleasures. Yes, it is confirmed that this light brew is refreshing and more a simple and clean beer

Jamon Iberico is love. We bought it from Spain, brought it to France and it lasted for a month.
