Making some soaps with my daughter

I have been away for a while, but it is good to be back. About a week and a half ago, my father fell and broke some of the vertebrae in his back and I went down to my parents house to help them out while he is recovering. Luckily, there is no damage to the spinal cord, but some of the pieces of the vertebrae that have the nerves in it were damaged, so he has been in a lot of pain and is not very mobile.
But while I was there, I was helping my parents clean up some stuff, and my mom gave me a bunch of things to make some crafts. One of those thing is a bunch of soap molds, soap base and all the stuff needed to make them smell and look good. I was pretty excited to make some soaps with my daughter when I got home.
We used a goat milk soap base that has a really nice creamy texture to it. I had never made soap before, but it couldn't be too hard. We warmed up the soap base in the microwave and then mixed in some coloring and scent. My daughter used a vanilla pomegranate and some lemon scent and a tiny bit of red coloring to give the soap a pink color.
There are a bunch of really cool silicone soap molds. My daughter really liked the sheep one. After we mixed everything together, we poured some lavender in the soap and then poured it into the molds. It's been pretty cold, so I put the molds in the garage to cool them off.
The soap really turned out pretty cool and I think I am going to make some of my own tomorrow. I don't know what scent I am going to be using, but I want them to smell different than the ones my daughter made. We have a bunch of different flower petals and other plants to sprinkle in to give it a fancy texture and look, so I might put some rose petals in there. I will probably make some and bag them and pass them out to the neighbors that I don't hate.
Overall, it was pretty fun making soaps and we can't wait to try them out. When we were cleaning the bowls and utensils, there were a lot of bubbles, so at least we know that it seems to work like real soap.

These are very cool! The use of those molds is a fantastic idea. Have fun using them! 😁
Thanks. We are looking forward to making more.
That's so cool, man! Making your own soap sounds cool. Right now I'm thinking about what scent I would choose and I think lavender, rose or olive oil would be good. The color pink is also a nice choice for a soap. It feels soft.
My daughter used one and said it lathered up like shaving cream. Lavender and rose would smell pretty good.
Foaming is really important haha. I've used non-foaming soaps before and it doesn't feel like soap.
Ya, might as well just use water at that point.
So sorry for your dad's health hope is much better I wish him quick recovery, I love the sheep soap too and I always like using goat milk body wash they are very good good for my skin but recently they are very expensive here in Nigeria so I have to look for an alternative.
It was nice reading how you assisted your parents.
Thank you. Hopefully you can find something that works for you and doesn't cost so much.
Yes the one I got now is perfectly okay and not that expensive
Sorry to hear about your dad, hope he's feeling a lot better now.
My friend learnt to make soap some years ago and she gave me a few pieces, they were really nice. She says she enjoys the process but the cleaning up is a lot of work and so messy as she does big batches each time. Looks like you and your daughter had some great bonding time
Thank you. It will be a few weeks before the pain and soreness is gone. We didn't make too much, so there wasn't a huge mess to clean up.

omg...so sweet!
Thanks
I wish he recovers well and soon.
This brings me back to my early childhood when I was helping my grandmother, who passed away many years ago, rest her soul in peace, to prepare grand quantities of soap by mixing lye and refined pig fat. She was mixing the dangerous parts and my part then was to experiment with adding some essential oils in different ratios. Mostly rose, lavender, lemon, mint, and a mixture of herbs that she was collecting by herself. I really loved all that. Poor times, but happy. She was using that soap for washing mainly.

You can create soap even starting from ashes, where the caustic potassium is present and creates foam when merged with fats (from skin for example). I used it a lot when washing external and non-fine-washing.
That sounds like way too much work for me. I would rather just have premixed soap base that I just need to add oils to.
