Nature Photography after a while

It’s been a really long time since I shared my photos. It hasn’t been because I haven’t been shooting. I can’t really tell what it is. Maybe I’ve just been lazy about it, or probably didn’t think these photos were good enough to show. So when I saw that today’s #marchinleo prompt featured photography, I thought it’s a great excuse to share my average photos:)

Aside the usual nature photography I do, I’m some of the photos I’ll be sharing here are going to be highlighting some memorable moments of mine from last year and this. Let’s get into it.

Lizard Man

If I were to have an awkward superhero name like spiderman does, mine would probablh be Lizard Man or some shit like that. The past 2 months, I randomly find Lizards in situations that require rescue.

For the Lizard in this picture, it went into our dustbin to get some snacks, and because the surface of the bin is smooth, it wasn’t able to crawl it’s way back up. So what did it do instead? Found this hole and tried to force it’s way through it. It actually almost succeeded, but after it’s head and two rear limbs made it through, the hind limbs got stuck. You can understand how that happened because of the disproportionate size of the rear limbs to the hind.I tried a lot of different methods to rescue it, and all but one succeeded. I pushed the body through the hole from inside the bin, allowing it to he able to pull itself out. But it still wasn’t able to make it out. So I tried to call on it’s natural survival instinct, by scaring it with a stick. When I did that, it pulled itself out and headed for a tree nearby. Lol there’s no way his friends will believe that story.

For this other fella, I’m not sure exactly what the problem was, but when I saw him, he was on the middle of the street, not moving at all when I approached him. Initially, I thought it was dead, until I took a second look to realize that his eyes had been shut close. As for whatever was responsible for that, I could only speculate. There wasn’t much I could do for this fella but pick him off the streets and onto grass, hoping whatever happened to him will take care of itself. It was sad, but it’s the natural order of life, I guess.

A snail funeral

I almost forgot I took this picture at all because of how long it’s been since I shot it in October last year. The rainy season was drawing to a close and around here, one very important marker of rainy seasons (among other things) is abundance of snails.

The problem is that the sluggish nature of snails make them victims to stomping and vehicle run overs. I had my phone torch on this night and was just heading back to my hostel when I noticed a snail with a broken shell that was surrounded by many other snails in what looked to me like a funeral. I’m sure there’s a science for this, but I have not looked it up yet.

Dragon Flash

This particular heading features two pictures - one of a dragon fly I took a picture of, and the other, literally a second later. I was trying to shoot a burst to choose the best picture out of them, and when I click shutter, before I could hit shutter again, the dragonflashfly took off. Such a short-lived photo session.

Memory #1: Meetup at DIO

In Tamale, we have this youth group called Tamale Connect. We meet once every month at different venues to discuss different things. Some topics we’ve discussed include Financial Literacy, Clean Air, Business Startup, and many others.

We’re a large movement of people, and so some businesses looking to advertise themselves sometimes host us at their restaurants or venues for free. On this day, we were hosted at DIO, a newly established food spot in the neighborhood. Both the food and conversation that day was good, that’s what makes it memorable for me, and deserving this feature.

Another piece of my Lead for Ghana residential institute

I’ll be unveiling another piece of my Lead for Ghana residential institute moments with this picture.

I took this picture standing on the third floor of our building. I was looking at and appreciating the beauty of a cloudy night with clouds hovering above the hill in the distance.

It was our last night at Hill View Hotel, and I was just quickly reflecting over the experience, appreciating the hood memories and friends I made here and how l’ll miss the place and the people.

I still have a very big stash of unposted photos that I’ll hopefully start posting soon. I hope you liked these ones though:)
