Motivational Mondays: My Local Squirrels on My Favorite Hill Have More Sense than Some Humans Nowadays, But We Can Catch Up

First weekend in July ... recovered around 90 percent from my bout with anemia in the winter so I can get out and do the kind of walking I want! Summer is here and the regular San Francisco fog was still present, but not so much that San Francisco Bay was not visible though slightly veiled in its deep blue as at last I made a serious traverse of Buena Vista Hill ... I sighted the top but knew I had better not push it too hard, and so just walked across its southern flank on the boardwalk there...

Already this day had been such a blessing for me ... so, it really got interesting when at last a squirrel showed up ...

... and contrary to all previous practice, struck a perfect pose for me to take a picture ... I mean, my little friend was locked in on this moment of being admired and brought to be seen in photo form this Monday ...

... except if you notice, he's not quite focused on the camera. He's looking at something else. It did not occur to me at the moment why, but when I say that squirrel was locked in, I mean it. If this were a human encounter, it might be just a little creepy...

Only later did I realize: our little friend was trying to figure out how the buffet had come, and then sadly went -- I had picked plums and pluots on the hill, and they were in my bag ...

But it is summer ... just a little down the boardwalk, there were plum and pluot trees I could not even reach. Our little friend will not at all miss a meal. No need to attack me. No need to mug me. No need to act a fool. That squirrel would have loved an easier meal, but its meals for months are out there, ripe and getting ripe!

We humans have a bit to learn from the squirrels ... a lot of what drives our behavior is fear of not having enough ... even the rich feel this fear because many of them live in scarcity mindset. They do not understand that the world is actually abundant, and there is enough for everyone to actually live well. Squirrels have more sense than some humans nowadays ... enough food on that hill for it and me through November, so no need for us to hurt each other.

We have problems as humans because people think they have to hoard because they have black holes in their hearts that can never be filled by collecting money and things. They do not understand contentment. They do not understand gratitude. They do not understand how to look around and find what is actually for them, and then enjoy and create from that all the things they need. This is why if a human wanted what was in my bag to the extent that our little friend did, I might have been in danger.

I'm not telling us to be like squirrels this Monday. I am encouraging us to walk through the week looking not so much at what other people have and we don't have, but to look for the blessings and opportunities there are in the abundance of this world. Yes, there are things that are lacking -- injustice, some of which comes down centuries, means resources are not distributed equally in the world. Whole people groups have been left impoverished because of the black holes in the hearts of others. This is a fact.

But if you are reading this, you have found the abundance that is Hive. You are being blessed, right now, in spite of the challenges that happen here as well ... there is no space with humans that do not have a few that do not have black holes in their hearts and want what they want to the point of not caring about hurting others. But be encouraged this Monday: if you look consistently with an open mind and heart, you will find abundance will meet you from every direction!

Glad to hear you are almost fully recovered and back to doing the walking you want to do. Thanks for the great shots and the tour of Buena Vista Hill.

Thank you for the well-worded reminder! It certainly was nice of that squirrel to pose for you, even if he was focused on your snacks. That looks like a lovely place to go for a walk. Sorry to hear you had anemia, but glad it's on the mend!

The last day I was rambling around that hill in the winter ... Jan. 11, actually ...

... my doctor was trying to reach me, and two days later I was having a blood transfusion. But I was told then: if I took proper care of myself, I could be well by July. Well, guess what? The squirrel and met far along this same pathway, July 5!

God is good -- He kept me in January, led me to do what I needed to do, and brought me back in July!

I seek high and low in whatever negative stuff that happened for that tiny piece of silver lining
