STEP BY STEP GUIDE ON HOW I USED FLOWERED PATTERN SUNRAY FABRICS TO MAKE THIS SIMPLE & ELEGANT GOWN FOR A CUSTOMER

In this post, I will be sharing with you how I made this simple yet elegant gown for a customer. The customer has been working on her body for months as she was trying to regain her body after childbirth. So, she was eager to be able to wear an outfit that will look good on her after successfully losing some weight. This is one of those outfits that may look simple when you see the finished outfit, but attention need to be paid to the cutting and joining in order to get a good result. I like the fact that the upper part is fitted and the lower part (skirt part) have a full flowy look.

Materials Used

• 3 yards flowered sunray fabric
• Bias
• Zip
• Matching thread
• Tailoring chalk
• Measuring tape
• Scissors
• Pressing iron

Step by Step

• These are the measurements that I used for this gown: shoulder (14"), bust (34"), underbust (31"), half length (17"), gown length (55"), sleeve length (16"), round sleeve (12").
  

• First, I drafted the upper part of the gown using the shoulder, bust , underbust and half length measurements.

• The neckline of the dress is a V neckline, so I mark it out accordingly on the fabric. The customer want to flaunt some cleavage so the v neckline was cut deep to her preference.
  

• When I was done with the drafting process, I cut the front bodice and back bodice accurately.

• Then I drafted the sleeves (sleeve length 16" and round sleeve 12". Next, I cut the sleeves out and they are set for attaching to the bodice.
  

• Next, it was time to join the front and back pieces of the bodice together and also attach the shoulder pieces and sew the sides and ensure that the bust and underbust area are well positioned.
• I used bias to tape the v neckline to give it a neat and smooth look. I stitched it with sewing machine and gave it a good press with my pressing iron.
  
• When that is done, I begin to work on the skirt part which I cut enough fabric to enable me achieve a long, full and maxi appearance. I then gathered the upper part of the skirt so that it will be a right fit for where it will join with the bodice at the lower part.

• Next, I joined the skirt part to the bodice and I attached the sleeves to the bodice. I made sure the sleeves were well positioned around the armhole to prevent unnecessary wrinkles.
• Next, I attached the zip to the back part of the bodice.

• Next, I checked for any necessary adjustments before giving the gown a good press especially around the seams.!

• I then fitted the gown on my mannequin to have an overall assessment.
