SOURCING FOR LACE, GEORGE AND ANKARA FABRICS IN THE MARKET TO SEW NIGERIAN TRADITIONAL OUTFITS FOR A CUSTOMER
Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
In this post I will be sharing with you how I went to buy some fabrics in the market for a customer who stays in the United Kingdom who want me to take charge of the purchasing of the fabrics and the sewing of the dress even to the final step of the process - delivery to her doorstep in the UK. Of course, I’m going to use a cargo/shipping company to send them to her location.
So, I got the details of the styles of dresses she want to make which are basically Nigerian traditional outfits which will be made using Lace fabrics, George fabrics, Ankara fabrics, and the likes. We discussed about the specifications of the dresses, the preferred color of fabrics, the pattern of fabrics, the length of the dresses (whether short or long) among other specifications. In terms of fabric color she is so big on colorful and bright fabrics.
In total she’s making eleven dresses, one with lace fabrics, three with George fabrics and seven with Ankara fabrics. So, I headed to the market where I can get these fabrics at reasonable prices and high quality. I had first checked the local market close to me but unfortunately I didn’t see what I wanted and apart from that the prices were on the high side. So, I had to go to a distanced market where fabrics are sold in large quantities and it wouldn’t be difficult to see varieties to choose from.
On getting to the market, I asked a few questions as I moved around to know the best vendors that I can get the fabrics I want from and I was directed to a particular shop that was filled with different types of fabrics. More importantly, the prices were customer friendly considering the top-notch quality I was getting.
I patiently selected the fabric carefully and I ensured it matched the specifications of the customer in terms of color, pattern and quality. As I was selecting I was sending her pictures and short clips of the fabrics and she was happy with what she was seeing and I'm pretty sure she would be happier when the dresses are ready. Also, I was able to get good deals and we were able to save some money from what we earlier budgeted.
The real work begins now that we have successfully purchased the fabrics. It will be a busy couple of weeks for me as I will begin to work on the fabrics and ensure that they are perfect before shipping. Bear in mind that I will simultaneously be working on other customer's outfits as well, so I have to manage my time well in order to meet the deadlines.
Above all, I'm excited about the opportunity and trust the customer has placed in me and I wouldn't want to disappoint. So, keep an eye on this space as I will be keeping you up-to-date as the sewing progresses.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
