PLANTING OF SOKO VEGETABLE SEEDS ON MY MINI TYRE FARM IN MY BACKYARD
Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
Some days ago, I shared on my blog how I turned three spoilt and abandoned tyres into a small mini farm in my backyard. In today's post I will be sharing the next step which is the planting of soko vegetable seeds.
Perhaps you are wondering what soko is. Soko is a popular green vegetable in Nigeria. The scientific name is Celosia argentea and it is fondly called Lagos Spinach. This soko vegetable is very delicious when combined with other vegetables such as waterleaf and ugu leaves (fluted pumpkin). Also, it can be cooked on it's own without combining with any other leaf and it goes down perfectly with 'swallows' such as pounded yam, eba and even rice.
Now to the planting process, I began by spreading the seeds in a tray to sort and remove the ones that seem to be damaged or have any defects. This is to ensure that to a large extent I have a set of high-quality seeds that will give me best results.
Afterwards, I mixed a bit of soil from the tyres with the soko seeds - this made it easy to scatter them evenly on the soil inside the tyre and also it will prevent winds from blowing it off if it wasn't mixed with the soil. However, I had already watered the soil inside the tyre farm to ensure it was moist before I sprinkled the seeds over the surface of the soil.
To further enrich the soil I added some poultry droppings that would serve as natural manure. Remember I shared on my blog that i visited my parent's during the Sallah break, so I had collected some of my mother's poultry droppings which I believe will improve the growth of the vegetables.
Now that I'm done planting I will be sharing with you all when the first sprouts begin to show and of course I will continue to water them every morning and evening, hopefully it is also rains - that's an added advantage too.
(NB: I'm unable to design my usual front cover image due to bad network. I had to battle with it before I can upload my blog images. I'd ensure I get it designed in my next post. Thank you.)
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
