Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗

This beautiful top and trouser (two piece) was made for a young lady who is the daughter of one of my client - she just got back from school for the just concluded Eid celebration. They bought 8 yards of materials for the two of them, that is, mother and daughter. However, it is only the daughter’s dress that have been completed for now because she needed to return to school. I had to hasten up with her own dress.

They opted for a style that I had made for a customer some weeks ago that I displayed on my mannequin. She made me know that she had seen the dress in front of my shop when she was passing by sometimes ago. The stretchy cotton knitted rib fabric is a trendy fabric that is been used to make beautiful dresses lately and a lot of people are hopping on the trend. Infact, the fabric is said to be a unisex fabric. It has such as smooth feel and it is elegant as well. I will also be making similar style for myself soon with the same fabric.

However, after the delivery of the dress the mother had some comments about the dress. She noted that overall I did a great job (smiles), but the only deficiency is that the top wasn't long enough to cover the posterior of her daughter. They are from a Muslim background and they cherish decency to the core. I apologised for the oversight and promise not to make the same error in her own outfit.

Materials Needed

  • 3 and half Cotton rib fabrics
  • Gum stay
  • Hemming gum
  • Threads matching the outfit
  • Scissors
  • 20 inches elastic
  • Tailoring chalk

Step by Step

  • Before we begin, note that this stretchy cotton knitted rib fabric is a stretchy fabric so you have to be careful when sewing by not stretching the fabric to avoid irregularities.

  • To choose a pattern I used an existing design that I have created for a customer before, so I didn’t need to create a new pattern.

  • I began by using my tailoring chalk to mark the neckline, armhole, bust measurement and the length of the shirt. Then I carefully cut them out.

  • Next, I chalked the sleeve length and the width which I added 1 inches for seam allowance. Then I cut it out as well. 1000099218.jpg

  • Next step is to draft the trousers. I took the crotch, waist, hip measurement. Note that I wanted a palazo fitting so I used the waist measurement all the way down from the hip to the ankle. Then, I carefully cut it out.

  • The next step is to weave the edges of the fabrics.

  • Now, we will start the sewing process after we are done with the drafting and cutting process. Join the shoulders together and attach the sleeves too.

  • The next thing we will do is to join the left and right side of the top together.

  • To work on the collar iron some gumstay on it and then you will attach the collar to the dress.

  • We’d move to the trouser now. Join the front and back crotch together. Attach pockets to the front part of the trouser

  • Then shape the two sides of the trouser. After that cut a long strip of the material that will be used for waistband, then attach it to the waist of the trouser, where the two ends meet you will pass the elastic through it.

  • As you pass the elastic through one side of the hole, pass it to the other end of the hole and join the two elastic together. At this point your trouser is ready.

  • After the top and trouser (two piece) have been completed, I took it to where I did my button hole. The button I did for the top is a fancy white press button.
