DIY: HOW I WASHED AND STYLED (CURLED) MY WIGS
Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
My wigs are more than just an hair - it is a bold fashion statement that boosts my confidence anytime I wear them. Either it is a straight, curly, wavy or short wig, they have a unique look that they give to whoever wears them. So, for something that gives you so much comfort and confidence, it is important to keep it clean at all times. So, how do you keep your wigs clean? It is by giving it good periodic wash either in the comfort of your home or giving it to your hair stylist to do it for you.
Just like our natural hairs, wigs have the tendency of accumulating dust, sweat and even natural oils over time. So, it doesn't matter whether you wear it daily or occasionally you need to wash it to get rid of these substances. Apart from the health effects it has on you, it also changes the quality of your wig. For instance, the fibers (synthetic, human etc) may be difficult to style because the sweat and dusts have make it to tangle. In other words, it is highly important to keep your hair healthy.
At first, I wanted to give an hair stylist to wash and style the wig for me but I had to resort to DIY because of the amount I was charged. So, I had to buy some things I will be needing to wash the wig by myself, though I have some at home. I just bought the ones i didn't have. I have discovered over the years that when I wash my wig it brings it back to life by giving me that soft and bouncy texture.
So, let me put you through how I washed my wig.
Step by Step
I made use of the following: wig brush, hot comb, rubber basin, hair shampoo, leave-in conditioner, mannequin (head), hair care essential oil, towel.
The first thing I did is to detangle the wig by brushing it with my wig comb.
So, I placed the wig in a plastic basin and filled the basin with a lukewarm water.
I added some amount of shampoo to the water and mixed it together. Afterwards I placed the wig inside the water and allow it soak for about 10 minutes.
Next, rinse the wig with cool water until all the shampoo is out.
Next, mix some leave-in conditioner and essential oil together and rub it on the wig. Then put the wig inside a ziplock bag and place in a basin, add some hot water inside the basin covering the ziplock bag and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes.
After the 30 minutes, bring it out of the ziplock and place it on the head of your mannequin and begin to style it with your roller by placing small sections of the wig around your plastic roller.
When you're done styling leave the wig for about 48 hours by airdrying it before you remove the rollers.
The process of washing and styling (curling) your wig is complete.
So, you can check out the results to see if you wig is curly and looking neat.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
