AN UNEXPECTED EVENING HEAVY DOWNPOUR AND RECOUNTING THE BLESSINGS OF THE RAINY SEASON

Today, I will be sharing with you the heavy downpour that occured this evening which happened quite in an unexpected manner as the weather changed within a few seconds from what has been a hot weather with dry air to a cloudy windy weather. In short, the cloud was pregnant and ready to deliver within a short unexpected period of time.

I was still in the shop working on one of my clients gown that needed some amendments when I observed that the weather was getting dark and windy. I also observed that the wind was tossing around leaves, nylons and other small bits of dirts that are on the street - before you know it it was getting really intense. So, I had to quickly run to get my mannequin that was used to display one of our newest pieces into the shop and also pack the fabrics that were displayed on a wooden rails into the shop before they begin to fly all over the street.

As I was rushing to pack my stuffs inside the shop, I observed that other shops are also rushing to pack their stuffs as well. Not only that, even passerbys have to double their pace in order to make it home or at least take cover in a safe place before the heavy downpour begin. Before you know it, the heavy rain began and the street that was bustling with different activities, people buying and selling, hawking, moving bikes and motorcycles, and so on became deserted. Everyone had taken cover in their respective houses or shops and passerbys who are far from their shelter would have looked for an alternative.

It rained heavily for more than forty minutes and during the course of the rainfall, we were hoping that it would not cause any damage to our properties because the winds were strong and consistent during the rainfall. Some weeks back, a huge tree fell on about three cars that were parked and it damaged them badly. Heavy winds like this can damage roofs or leave the streets flooded most especially in areas where the drainage system is not properly maintained.

However, I must confess that the rainfall is a big relief. The heat had been unbearable before the rain started and the rain brought with it a well deserved cool atmosphere. During the rainy seasons there will be less sweating caused by intense heat and the air we breathe will be much fresher and healthier.

Undoubtedly, the rainy season is a blessing to humanity. It is a season when food is expected to be more available and affordable because farmers will find it easy to till the ground and their crops will grow faster. Unlike the dry season when they have to use watering cans or irrigation systems.

Well, apart from plenty foods and healthy plants during rainy season, there is a high tendency that more babies will be made during this season as well. In Nigeria (and maybe in some other part of the world), when it is rainy the slang that is used among married people or people in a relationship is that it is a Weather for two. Due to the cozy weather many babies will be made during this period. Isn't the rainy season a huge blessing to us?
