The former underground military base - Lightpainting on Hive

Hi there,

Here's my first post about that trip I made a couple of weeks ago near Paris with my usual partners in crime.

This is a location I visited a couple of times before. A place where you can feel history with an H. This is a former network of underground quarries exploited separately first but linked together in a second period. Then WW2 arrived and changed the whole map : allied forces decided to settle NATO military bases around Europe after the conflict and that's why this place was built under a forrest somewhere around the capital city.

For that trip, we were agree to focus on exploring the quarries in the first part but Flavien wanted to photograph a couple of things in the bunker part so here we go :

That massive tank was not the biggest we saw, but it was the most convenient to photograph with a nice frame. I decided to ask Captain Shlag to do the shadow model to give an element of comparison to the tank.

Close to that tank, we saw the wreck of a tractor. I liked it so I decided to give it a go and try something here. I put a flashlight in the back on the gallery to make the orange lighting and I used another flashlight and the backlight scanner to put a touch of light-blue. At the end, I tried to make a kind of myst effect but I should insist on it way more.

After that, we packed our gear and we decided to walk during a while : destination was a iconic stairway that I'd never photographed before. But our steps leaded us to an area with cages and I took an hour to play with it :

At the end of the trip, we visited the best underground room of all times!!! Unfortunately for you guys, I swore not to publish any visual content of this pure gem.

WHAT IS LIGHTPAINTING?

Lightpainting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera, or by moving the camera itself during exposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.
